When reading one of my old Entertainment Weekly magazines yesterday (I didn’t get them forwarded to my DC address) I came across one of their suggestions on a new book called Holly’s Inbox.
From Amazon review:
Denham’s novel, written entirely in e-mails, began as a serialized Web site, www.hollysinbox.com. The story revolves around Holly Denham, the new receptionist at a London bank, and through her correspondence, readers get to know her daily life. She befriends Trish, the other receptionist, and begins a relationship with James, a charming higher-up. Between organizing meetings at the bank, she trades hilarious, risqué e-mails with her friends Jason and Aisha, assures her parents she’s getting along well, helps her grandmother decipher the Internet, and offers her siblings much-needed advice. Her e-mails even reveal a life-altering event from her past. While the premise can be tiresome—who doesn’t have to slog through enough e-mails of their own?—the story becomes more engrossing as fresh details come to light. The author, a placement-agency owner writing under a pen name, explores a new format with compelling results. A second novel is planned, and Holly’s adventures continue online. --Aleksandra Walker
Basically, the author (a man!) had an employee that was very similar to Holly. As soon as she started her job, she started to send out racy emails to coworkers, friends, and family. When she was fired, the company went through her email and found all of them. The author then decided to start his own website….which then turned into the book. The book sounds like a fun read and I might check it out. In the meantime though, you can go to the website and read almost two months of emails. Don’t worry- the emails aren’t long and there are not a ton of them. I think that they get updated every weekday?
Happy reading!

To be honest, the book didn't sound like a fun read until the part where you said it was based on an actual employee. Now I'm curious.
I once had a co-worker who wanted to write a book about the student newspaper and the drama that happened in the newsroom between certain people. This book, while a little different, sounds like what his book would be like since it's based on real people.
I checked out the site just to see what it was and get a jist of what it was about and I ended up reading all 2 months of entries....I was hooked. Now I feel like it's a soap opera and I can't wait to see what happens next! Thanks for passing it along...although I'm terribly behind at work now since I just wasted all that time....Oops! I will make it up tomorrow!
Jess- I agree. It sounded like silly chick lit until I found out about the real employee.
Amy Jo- yeah....the same thing happened to me at work! Luckily I wasn't too busy at the time. :-)
