Do you ever feel as if you are judged when you go to the grocery store? This may sound like a weird question, but sometimes I worry about what people think based on what I bring to the checkout.
Some shopping days I don’t worry about it. For instance this weekend I knew that I had to get my healthy foods for the week- bananas for breakfast, apples for an afternoon snack, yogurt for lunch, and salad fixings for dinner side salads.
However, there are some times when I head to the store and buy crap. Like yesterday when I was trying out a new dessert recipe and had to buy ice cream, cool whip, and jello. It happened to be ½ the fat ice cream, fat free cool whip and no sugar added jello mix, but I’m sure the checkout people don’t pay attention to the details. They just see a size 14 person buying food that she probably shouldn’t be eating if she wants to lose weight.
Or there have been other times when I head to the store and buy some kind of frozen convenience food because I frankly am too lazy to cook that night and CP is away for work. Do they judge my frozen pizza selection? They don’t know that I stood and looked at the nutritional information on the packages to figure out which pizza would still taste good, but wouldn’t automatically latch on to my thighs.
Or is it the opposite- do they laugh at my attempts to be healthier in my food choices- such as buying no sugar added frozen fruit bars instead of heading for the Ben & Jerrys? Thinking to themselves, why is she is even trying?
Do you feel judged when you go the grocery store? Or am I completely crazy?

Census
Do you know that you could help save the Federal Government $1.5 BILLION dollars by sending in your census form before Thursday? It costs the Census Bureau $.42 in postage for you to mail back your form….but costs $57 for a census taker to come to your house. I mean, who wants a random knock from a census taker at your door anyway?

Have YOU filled out your census form and mailed it back yet?

I’m not sure about your household, but it took me all of about 5 minutes to fill out my census form for me and CP. So for those of you that complain that taxes are too high, but then don’t take 5-10 minutes out of your day to complete the form, you are just exacerbating the problem.
Have YOU filled out your census form and mailed it back yet?

The sickies
Well, so far 2010 has not been a very good year health-wise for the NSC family.
In February, I found out that I had a cyst in my back. I finally was able to go in to see the doctor and will be having surgery late next month. The good news? The doctor said that it is not cancerous. The bad news? He said “whoa that is big!” Yeah buddy, that doesn’t really help things.
So the surgery is no big deal, just an outpatient procedure….but CP will have to fly home early from the job he is currently working on so that he can drive me home from the procedure. Plus I can’t eat anything past 12am that morning. Both have something to do with the sedation they have to put me under. I guess I shouldn’t be in too much pain- it is just going to feel bruised for a few days.
Along with the cyst, I have been having “woman issues.” I thought that they had gone away, but they came back with force last Thursday and last night. Oh boy was I in pain. I’m waiting to hear back from the doctor, but she might have to do an ultrasound to find out if there is something going on down there.
Then this morning, CP went to the hospital. I won’t describe his issues, but the poor guy had to find a hospital in the middle of nowhere. I briefly talked to him this morning and he sounded as if he was doing okay and would be let out a bit later. I just wish that he wasn’t working away from home and having to deal with this while on a job. :-(
I keep thinking about the millions of people that NOW have health insurance, but didn’t just a week ago. How they would have had to decide between going into debt or staying healthy by going to the doctor. I am very thankful that my husband and I have health insurance…..and that now other families do not have to make that awful choice.

Midlife crisis?
I’m beginning to think that CP is going through some sort of midlife crisis. He IS turning 34 in June after all. I have two pieces of evidence:
1. He downloaded Black Eyed Peas songs from my iTunes library onto his iTouch. His reasoning? “I want to know what the kids are listening to these days so that I can be hip.”
Uhhhh sweetie? People don’t use the word “hip” anymore.
2. While I was away in January, he watched the movie Twilight. Yes, the teenybopper movie. Neither of us have read the books. Neither of us have shown any interest in watching the movie. Again, his reasoning was that he wanted to know what kids were into these days.
Alright weirdo.
But of course, as soon as he told me these things? I had to tell our friends. Last week while we were in Colorado, one of his groomsmen wrote the following on his Facebook wall: “Seems silly to remind you, but don't forget Twilight comes out on DVD on the 20th.”
BHWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. All of us at the ski condo literally fell on the floor laughing once we saw the posting (partly because of all of the drinking). And then of course we all pulled out our smart phones so that we could “like” the post.
Should I be worried that my husband of less than six months is already going through a mid-life crisis?*
*I am (99%) kidding when I ask this question.

Happy happy joy joy
After two months of CP’s condo on the market (and getting no offers), then four months of CP not using Craigslist correctly, almost getting scammed, and relying on my sister-in-law to make the hour drive to show off the condo almost every weekend…..WE FINALLY HAVE RENTERS!!! I can’t tell you how excited this makes me….despite the fact that almost all of their first month’s rent must go towards a special assessment.
WE NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY BOTH A MORTGAGE AND OUR RENT!! We eat $200/month on the mortgage, but at least we will have some extra cash laying around that can be put towards credit card bills. And here’s hoping we great a nice refund from the IRS this year….

Hope is still alive
400th post! I have really written that many posts????!!!???
So while we were out in Colorado last week, I had my second interview with the other company. I could tell that it was going pretty well when my interviewer described the culture of the organization and used terms and words that I had used earlier in the interview to describe my ideal job! Not only that, but as I waited for the interviewer to come out, I saw people MY AGE walking around. This is huge as in my company? There are FIVE of us.
I don’t want to get my hopes too high, but the original interviewer called me yesterday and asked if I could send over my law school transcript and references. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!
However, I’m still wary of my boss. Before I left for vacation, I got an email from the guy who was trying to help me get the internal transfer. He said that he was sorry that he couldn’t get the transfer through, but emailed me contact information for other directors out in Denver for me to contact. Because my boss freaked out when I went behind her back last time, I sent her an email the Friday before I left (she had already left for the day, otherwise I would have told her in person) letting her know that I did contact the directors. Her email back? “Who told you to do this?” She might not mean it in a weird way and it’s possible that she didn’t sabotage the other internal transfer, but for now, I have decided not to tell her about my interviews with the other company. If I do get the job at the other company, it is going to be super awkward until I leave, but whatever.

I just wanted to let everyone know, that I did read every single one of your posts last week....I just didn't have time to comment on them. But I'm back, the Google Reader is once again manageable and I will start to comment again. :-)

I'm back
I’m back from vacation and hopefully my writers block is now gone! I had a fantastic 9 days out in Colorado. Some of the highlights:
*Throwing my bridesmaid’s baby shower. She is a huge University of Texas fan and has decided against finding out the sex of the baby. Therefore, orange and white decorations!
*Skiing 5 days- once at Breckenridge, once at Vail, twice at Beaver Creek, and once at Loveland. We were all over the place!
*One of the days at Beaver Creek was spent in 9” of powder. I was a little nervous at first, but sat back a bit on my skis and had a great time going down mogul runs!
*The day at Loveland was spend with my sister-in-law, her husband and their two kids. Our niece is a bit of a fraidy-cat so she is slow and didn’t like when the wind was moving the chair lift a bit. On the other hand, our nephew had a fantastic time going through the trees and snowplowing all the way down the mountain (with no turns!).
View from the top of Loveland- BEAUTIFUL!!!
*Way too much drinking. We introduced a lot of our friends to Amarula, a liquor we found in South Africa. It’s kind of like Bailey’s but to this non-coffee drinker, it’s great. Our favorite shot of the week? Springbok shots- ¾ oz of Crème de Menthe (the green-colored one) and ¼ oz of Amarula. It tastes just like a thin mint Girl Scout cookie. Delicious!
*Hanging out with friends. One couple we hadn’t seen in almost two years because they were not able to make it out to our wedding.
*Spending time with CP. Despite the fact that there were many others in the ski condo, I got to spend the entire 9 days with CP as he was able to take vacation time off from his current consulting job in OH.
*Finding out that one of my friends has officially gone off the pill so that she and her husband can start making babies once he gets a full time job (he is working two part jobs and has been in search of a full time position for almost two years).
*Finding out that our friends that couldn’t make it out to ski condo had a healthy baby girl!
