I shouldn't have looked

On Friday I had to head to my primary car physician to get some tests and blood work done so that my physician could refer me over to my RE once again. This was supposed to happen two months ago but no one informed me that I had to get all of my tests done again, so my RE appointment is now early next month.

This delay means that the January frozen transfer that we were hoping to do will not be happening as I'm sure that we can't get everything together in time for that because I still need a saline sonogram and really, who knows what my RE will find there. We still know that I have a fibroid behind my uterus- will I need another surgery to get that taken care of before the frozen transfer? I worry that this will indeed be the case, but I will find out soon enough.

When I got into work this morning, I saw a message from my doctor that some of my blood work results were back. My FSH is still too high (14- it was 13 back in December of 2012- it should be less than 10) and my Estradiol is less than 20 which according to the ranges supplied by my doctor means that I am post-menopausal. Awesome.

I didn't think that pregnancy would cure my hormone issues and I didn't think that it would be a cure for my fibroid, but I had a glimmer of hope that because my first IVF worked that maybe I could be that person that magically got pregnant after IVF. Not only does this make me laugh at the fact that I even had a glimmer, but it makes me even MORE nervous about the frozen transfer next year. These results put even more pressure on that to work, even though it is really out of my hands. If it doesn't work am I going to respond even more poorly to the drugs based on my new test results during a fresh cycle?

I shouldn't have looked at the results this morning because I have to leave to give a presentation in a few minutes and now I am going to be worrying about it all day.

I can't relate so I don't have any advice but I hate that so many women have to go through this. It shouldn't be this difficult or stressful. I imagine I would be a basket case of worry and anxiety in your shoes and hearing people say to relax or not to worry about what's out of your control is annoying so I won't say that. I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best.

That sounds absolutely stressful and I'm sorry you got that bad news. I hope your day goes okay in spite of learning some discouraging info and more importantly, I hope things can proceed as smoothly as possible in the months to come.

Every once in awhile my husband will casually mention doing IVF again. I usually just laugh and blow it off, mostly because we can't really afford to do it again. But, regardless of money, I told him he's crazy to think we could do it again because of my DOR. We got so few eggs on each of the 3 fresh cycles we did. The last one was 2 years ago and I imagine it would be another year before we could try again. I just imagine they would laugh me out of the clinic at that point. So, I get your worry and really hope the FET works. It's a good thing you have to get all the tests done again so you can make sure everything is in the best shape for the transfer.

OH, K, I'm wishing you luck and hoping that this isn't what you think. I know nothing about this process so all i can do is send you good vibes.

Was this a day 2 or 3 testing ? If so, it would be more concerning if your E2 levels were higher! To validate the FSH, it should be less than 80, but most REs like it less than 50. You can't diagnose a post menopausal status on one E2 level alone. An FSH of 14 indicates you can expect a reduced response to stims, but your not out of the game by a long shot! Most REs will look more at the FSH and prior response to stims, remember your diagnostic cycle, as a guide. The question to ask your RE would be if he/she thinks your chances would be higher with an FET or fresh cycle.
Now go stun them with your presentation!

It's SO frustrating seeing all of these numbers and figures when you just want to be blissfully ignorant and HAVE A FREAKING BABY. Big hugs. x

I'm with Jane. An FSH of 14 is NOT that bad, especially if it was 13 when you did your successful fresh cycle. I'm pretty sure menopausal women have numbers in the 70s or 80s. Either way, at least with this info you can maybe decide if you want to try a new fresh cycle first before an FET, or if you can leave another fresh cycle for later. I'm hoping you'll have just as good luck the second time around!

Oh so stressful! I wouldn't have been able to resist looking either. I hope your presentation went well. I am thinking about you as you get ready to do this again!

I don't think there's a single one of us that doesn't have that glimmer of hope that pregnancy was a cure all for us. I've caught myself wondering what if, and my husband has so had a dream that I got pregnant. Never mind the fact that it would be near impossible for it to happen for us naturally. I love Jane's answer. You're not out of the game yet! Don't go getting all discouraged before you get ALL your answers! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that this next round will be a successful one.

This is such a stressful process. I didn't know you were going through infertility treatment, but so many people do so. Small world- I work as an infertility nurse, working with patients in your almost exact situation daily. I'm no expert by any means, but I am knowledgable in the field and if you ever have any questions or just want to vent to someone who knows about this stuff from the other end, I'd be happy to chat with you. From my understanding, an FSH of 14 is not terrible, and also... many many people go on to have successful pregnancies through thaw cycles. I hope that brings you a little bit of comfort. There is still hope. Hang in there and stay strong... I know it's so very overwhelming on many levels.

IVF/FET is so much work and stress. A part of me is glad I don't have that option again, now that I have a toddler, but also sad because it may be the only thing that works for us. I will pray that you get some good news soon and can proceed onto your next cycle. All the best.
