The thunder and lightning were completely freaking the dogs out and I couldn't really sleep anyway, so I went downstairs to try to calm the dogs with my presence. Fuzzy Britches is still stuck in the sunroom all the time because it is the only room in the house fully carpeted and the only room we trust her in (if she slips on the hardwood floor she could tear her new ACL). She already got out from the barrier made out of chairs once and tore across the hardwood floor trying to find us; might as well not have it happen again.
I put on some soothing music, lay down on the couch, and hoped the dogs would settle down. Two hours later, I didn't really get to sleep at all and I was dreading my work day. At least I would be working from home. CP and I checked downstairs to see if we had major water- we had seepage from three different places but nothing earth-shattering. The garden beds out back were flooded which is probably not going to help everything grow. Ehhh, could have been worse.
I have a coworker that gives her dog some drugs (vet-approved and prescribed) to calm her down during a storm and I'm thinking that Fuzzy Britches might benefit from that. Does anyone else out there do that? We make sure never to comfort her during the storm, but as she ages, I'm worried she is going to hurt herself as she runs around in a panic.
The rest of the day has been trying to stay out of the way of the window installers. Yes, today is the day that we get all new windows throughout the house! Bye bye 1937 drafty windows! Only a quarter of them actually opened so I am super excited about windows that actually WORK. I promise before and after pictures. :-)
We also received good news from our siding installers- instead of coming in late July they are thinking they will be able to start the week of July 8th! I can't wait! Our house is going to look completely different after that makeover!! Not to mention finally having working gutters is going to really help when we get these large rain storms.

We're supposed to have a thunderstorm later this day. While I am looking forward to it, it is just too hot and muggy right now. No one is sleeping well.
Yay for new windows, that open! And I hope the siding is put on quickly. New stuff, when planned and wanted (unlike a machine breaking), is awesome!
Here is an idea if you have the space...When Lainey had her (many) ACL surgeries, we emptied out our dining room and bought some of those baby gates that click together to make an octagon and we laid some rubber flooring down over the hardwoods and made her her own little room. Our house is open concept so the DR is open to the living room and also the kitchen so she could see us at all times.
Ohhh new siding. That is one of dream projects. Makes a house look brand new. Yours will look great!
My in-laws just got new windows, siding and gutters, too. Though, their house pretty much looks the same (because they chose all the same colors - wouldn't be my first choice, but hey, it's not my house, either - ha!).
Also, our neighbor's dog freaks the eff out whenever it storms or there are fireworks (which, surprisingly, there are a lot throughout the summer in our neighborhood). He runs for the bathroom and jumps in the bathtub, refusing to come out or even go outside (not good for his digestive track). They give him some vet-prescribed drugs to chill him out -- and it seems to work.
Two things. We are not far from you, and we have had craaazy water seepage in our basement this spring. My husband has been going nuts trying to use landscaping to fix this, but it's not helping so far. Egh. Also, we give one of my pooches benzos during long car rides. We do a lot of driving to visit family, and the meds have made these trips wayy less terrifying for him. I think the drugs are a MUCH better alternative to the intense and extended fear. Plus, they're super cheap and really low risk. It's a good option!
My husband was flying home and got stick in Chicago, he was tempted to beg to get on a flight home my claiming "my wife is ovulating tonight!"
The weather has been so wonky lately! Severe flooding up in Alberta, which usually suffers from droughts if anything, and it's been raining for the past 10 days straight here in Toronto, with still more to come. So annoying -- what happened to plain old regular summers?
Also, I vote for purple siding. :)
Yippee for new windows! And also yikes, those storms sound scary.
