Last week I got CP’s sperm analysis results. They were not good.
The number of sperm included in the sample is normal.
The percentage of good sperm that swim forward is normal (i.e. motility).
But the number of sperm that are considered “good sperm” is low. A normal percentage is 14-15%. CP only has 4%.
“Good sperm” have an oval head with a long tail. “Bad sperm” have head or tail defects- like an oddly-shaped head, a double head or lack a tail. The defects affect the ability of the sperm to reach and penetrate an egg.
So, I could be busting out perfectly good eggs on the regular with no good sperm in the area to complete the procreation process.
As soon as I heard I burst into tears. CP kept joking that the tests that we were having done were going to show that I was the one messing the process up. After all of those jokes, how was he going to take the news? That’s an essence of his manhood that the doctor is now telling him is defective.
Why couldn’t it just be something wrong with ME???
That night after CP got home I gave him the results. He didn’t have much to say and I didn’t want to push him to talk about it. He clearly wasn’t in the mood. It was a quiet dinner and a fairly quiet night in our house.

Oh no :( All I can say is 4% is better than 0%. What did they say your chances of conceiving are now? From what I'm reading...there seems to be a lot of hope left, it just might take awhile... hugs.
Your sentiment, why couldn't it be me ... I think we all feel that at some point in our lives ... whether it's wishing we got the promotion, not the other guy ... or we were the cause for bad news, not our loved one ... or that we were the one who got physically injured, not our child. To sum it up, life is unfair.
On the flip side, now you have clarity. And I'm pretty sure you'll have options for how to capture his 4% and introduce them to your eggs-in-waiting. I have high hopes for you, seriously.
Oh KT, I'm sorry you guys got bad news. I'm sure that CP is processing the info--it's gotta be tough for you both.
I do think that knowing the challenges can help find the right solutions--I really hope your doctors help you figure out where to go from here.
I don't say hugs on the internet often, but I am totally sending you a hug.
I'm sorry to hear this :( However, on the bright side, I'm "happy" for you that you got some answers. Answers mean you can make new decisions based on information, which is so much better than not knowing. I really really hope you are able to find a way to have a baby soon.
I'm so sorry :-( But like Tia said, now that you have some answers you can discuss different options if you want to.
My thoughts are with you! {{{hugs}}}
That is rough news but, you have another missing piece in the puzzle. What is the plan now, how did your tests results come back as?
I'm sorry that you didn't receive the news you wanted to hear. It will take time to process but now that you've got answers, hopefully you can work together to formulate a game plan. Thinking of you xo
Aww honey. So sorry :(
i'm so sorry :(
I'm so sorry. I wish I had something more to say but I can't imagine how difficult this must be. I guess it's good to know a possible cause to the problems you guys have faced and hopefully now you can move forward armed with that knowledge. (hugs)
Ugh, I'm so sorry. I know it wasn't what you were expecting to hear, or what you wanted to hear, but at least having something answered means you have narrowed down what the next steps will need to be!
Sending positive thoughts to you guys!
