You all know my love of National Public Radio....it is how I stay sane with my two hour commute every day to work! Well good news- NPR has record ratings!
My guess as to why NPR is doing so well? Because websites like CNN.com have iReports- random people putting up silly pictures, videos, and short blurbs about their lives such as this one. Not to mention being able to buy a CNN tshirt that has some random headline of the day on it. HUH? This is news? I don't think so.
As 24 hour news stations try to "entertain" people instead of informing them, I think that people such as myself simply want the news. And I believe that NPR does just that.
Although they are achieving record ratings, NPR still has had to lay off some employees. Their corporate sponsorship is down and gifts from individuals is down. So if you are a fan of NPR as I am, next time you hear an on-air fund drive, think about giving if you can.

Me too I adore NPR! It is the only thing that I listen to on my way to work. I like their topics, the real human interest stories and just the info that they give me.
Plus I am huge fan of this American Life and Wait Wait...
I saw Wait Wait in person when I lived in Chicago- it was even better live!
Who needs an on-air fund drive to give money? I'm quite certain they take money year round!
Like you, I love NPR. Their segments and interviews are unlike any other. During their spring drive (which is when I always donate), I switched things up. I'm now donating a set amount each month, which will total far more than I've ever given them in one scoop.
I'm with you on the NPR love. It's a wonderful thing, and I think they are doing so well because they don't give people stupid things that are considered as "news" like the TV stations sometimes do.
