Fertilization Report

Well, I just got the call from my clinic and I was hoping for better news.

Out of the 11 eggs, only 6 were mature enough to ICSI (technique used because of our male factor infertility).  (Not sure what ICSI is?  For a quick video on ICSI go here.)

Out of the 6 ICSI'ed eggs only 3 fertilized.

Obviously I am disappointed, but I have to keep in mind that we are currently still in the game.  I just have to keep hoping that the cells divide normally and that the call from the clinic tomorrow has good news.  There is nothing that I can do other than wait until tomorrow.

This is going to be a long 24 hours.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you will have (3) beautiful embryos to transfer in next day or two.

Am really sorry, that is disappointing after retrieving 11. Here's hoping you have three super quality embies growing in their petri!!

I'm sorry. This is suck a mindf&%#$ing number game. And as you said, there isn't really anything we can do. Just wait and hope.
FX for 3 rockstar embryos! And to a good and speedy recovery from your ER.

Aw, I get where you're coming from -- it's hard when you're expecting that maybe 10 would be mature and 8 would fertilize or something... but as you say, you are still VERY much in the game here. With these results, are they now planning to transfer on Day 3 instead?

Hopefully those 3 are awesome! Huge good luck to you guys. x

They always tell you the number retrieved, but in actuality the only number that matters is how many mature eggs they get. I'm sorry the fertilization rate was not higher for you. I know exactly how hard it is to get such a low number. I am rooting and cheering for those 3 little embabies to keep on growing though!

It's quality not just quantity! Hoping for good progression!

One of those eggs could become your first child. I'm sending good vibes for a strong blast for transfer.

Did they only ICSI the mature ones? How long ago?

Good luck to you and your embryos.

You are still very much in the game, though I know it's disappointing. I only had 6 mature eggs and 3 fertilized and thankfully that's all I needed. I will be sending all sorts of good vibes for your embryos to keep on growing.

50% is a good fertilisation rate, as disappointing as it sounds.

We had 3 fertilised, all 3 made to blast - transferred the best one, and here we are. Don't give up! x

Boo. I know exactly how you feel. We had a similar fertilization rate. Sorry you didn't get the numbers you were hoping for, but hopefully one of those three will be the one.
