Whenever I start to worry about what is going on in my life, something always reminds me of how lucky I am. I was casually talking to a co-worker today in the lunch room and she mentioned that losing weight has been hard because she never gets enough sleep. I thought to myself, “hmm I wonder why she doesn’t get any sleep? She looks almost sixty years old which would make me think that she is not going out to the clubs every night…”
It turns out that she is taking care of her eight-month old grandson. Back in June her son died and suddenly, the mother of the child got on a bus and left….leaving my co-worker and her husband to take care of the infant. My co-worker does have one day where she can work from home, thus helping her sick husband raise the child, but can you even imagine? You are done raising your children, excited about being grandparents, and BOOM, suddenly you are now parents again. This co-worker will be eligible to retire in two years and she is looking forward to that. But children get more expensive the older they get. How are they going to care for and pay for this grandchild? It is an awful predicament to be put in.

Sounds downright awful. Though, you can look at it from the flip side and say how lucky that child is to be raised by people who love him.
