Finally done with Christmas shopping!

Searching for a last minute gift for a parent that is especially hard to buy for? I have the same problem with my dad because he is not a “typical” dad. He doesn’t golf. He doesn’t barbeque (my mom does all the cooking). He really needs to get a hobby other than work. The one thing that does interest him? Knowing about our family history and where we came from. So, CP and I found an interesting gift that we thought he might like- to participate in the National Geographic Genographic Project.

Basically, you get a kit and swab your cheek to sample your DNA. For a male, you can either test your mother’s ancestry or your father’s ancestry (because females don’t have a Y chromosome you can only test your mother’s ancestry). The results do not show where your great-grandparents are from, but where your African ancestors came from and where they migrated to. CP’s dad already did and his results were really interesting. The more people they get to participate in the project, the better the results.

After I order the kit for my dad, I am officially done with Christmas shopping for the year! And let me say, THANK GOODNESS. Spending all of that money was stressful because I know that we simply don’t have it right now. Our credit card is going to love us while we try to pay down the oh-so-high balance right now. :-(
