Quick update

CP and I left the hospital on Tuesday afternoon without Wes. It was really weird leaving the hospital without a baby. Thankfully that night CP went back to the hospital for Wes' 9pm feed and found him doing better. Wes ended up surprising the doctors with his quick recovery from the CPAP machine and came home on Thursday afternoon. Since then there has been a lot of snuggling to make up for lost time.

Currently he is still a very sleepy newborn and is getting up every two hours or so to nurse. Thankfully he is going right back to sleep afterwards so I am getting some broken sleep throughout the night.

Every day my pain level decreases and I am already off the painkillers. It's still hard to get out of bed when Wes starts to fuss so currently I hold onto the headboard to help me lift myself up to a sitting position. I'm also having gas/bloating pain and had a headache all day today. I still am holding onto a lot of fluid (especially in my feet/ankles) so I am only down 8 lbs since the morning of Wes' birth. Pretty ridiculous considering Wes was 8 lbs, 3 oz....

Will try to type up my birth story soon and Wes' NICU story.

Introducing...

Introducing Wesley! Born Friday, July 15th at 11:10am. He weighed 8 lbs, 3 oz and was 20.276 inches long at birth. Unfortunately about two hours after birth he was taken to the NICU and has been there ever since because of breathing issues. It has been a difficult few days and going home without Wes tomorrow is going to be so, so tough. More to come soon.

Baby #2: This time I'm not ready!

Tomorrow is the big day. Boy did July 15th sneak up on us. I feel so unprepared and simply not ready to have a newborn in our house! I am laughing because it is completely opposite of what I was feeling last time.

The house is not in order and could be much cleaner. Waiting until last Sunday to take down infant and newborn stuff from the attic was a mistake. We were able to go through all of Izzy's old clothes and give away everything that was 12mo and larger to a friend. I have another box of girl clothes from newborn-9mo just waiting to figure out where to drop it off. The gender-neutral clothing that baby #2 can wear still needs to be washed. All of the infant contraptions need to be put together and are in pieces, mostly on our living room floor.

The nursery is a disaster with hand-me-down clothes strewn all over the place and boxs of toys and other items placed haphazardly throughout the room. I know that baby #2 is not going to sleep in there for a while but at least point I we couldn't even use the changing table or really the room.

This morning I freaked out because although we have the pack n'play ready to go, I couldn't find the bassinet part and that is where we plan on baby #2 sleeping for the first two months or so. CP and I traded text messages on whether we could order a new one from Amazon or what we were going to do. We couldn't even remember what it looked like! Thankfully my boss allowed me to work from home today so I got out the manual to figure out what I was looking for and went searching in the basement, closets, the attic, etc. finally finding both the bassinet, the infant bath sling, the Boppy, and My Brest Friend in a plastic container that I thought was empty. For a while there I was seriously freaking out though.

After I get off of work today I still have a bunch of things to do:

-pack hospital bag. Yep, I totally waited until the last minute to do this. I just found my nursing bras and tops on Sunday and had to wash them!
-continue washing infant soft items and clothes
-clean up nursery- at least enough so that we can use it for diaper changes, put away clothes, burp clothes, etc.
-buy diapers and probably a going-home outfit because I don't think that I have one?!?
-wrap Izzy's gifts from baby brother & pack in hospital bag.

If I was having a vaginal birth I wouldn't worry about some of these things because although I would assume that I would be sore, I would be able to move around and do more. I re-read my post on recovering from the c-section and think that things are going to be tougher this time around because of Izzy. I have told her a couple of times that I won't be able to pick her up for a while and she will be in daycare during the day, but I don't think that she is going to understand. :-(  Thankfully my mom and CP are going to be around the first week, then my MIL will be coming in for two weeks.

I wish that I felt more ready, but he's coming tomorrow whether I like it or not. Here goes nothing!

Day in the Life- Summer 2016 Part 2

As I mentioned on Thursday, I thought that it would be nice to document both a weekday and a weekend day in our last few days before Baby #2 gets here so enjoy Part 2!

Day in the Life- Summer 2016 Part 2
Saturday, July 9th

CP is 40
I am 37.5 and 37 weeks, 1 day pregnant
Izzy is 2.5
Buster is 5.5

Went to bed just before 11 Friday night. Peed twice throughout the night.

6:50- We hear Izzy crying and I decide to get up with her. She is crying because she can't find her caterpillar book (The Very Hungry Caterpillar). She asks to go downstairs, I tell her we have to hit the bathroom first. I take off her pullup, Then into the bathroom we go. She tries, I pee. We thump down the stairs with Buster.

Let Buster out, grab milk for Izzy, and I grab Buster's breakfast in the basement. Buster is let back in the house to gobble up his breakfast while Izzy asks for a movie. I turn on a Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood episode and Izzy asks to sit in my lap.

Cutie pie

The show finishes so I ask Izzy to get me a banana because I am starving. She gets one for herself as well. CP comes downstairs just as Izzy asks to watch the Letter Factory, but we tell her that TV watching is done. She complains for a bit but we try to distract her with the promise of going out to breakfast.

7:45- Izzy grabs her Keens and puts them on the wrong feet, then says she needs to park her dinosaur before we go upstairs to get clothes on. She picks out her outfit and then decides that she needs to use the bathroom all by herself. "Turn light on mommy!" She pees all by herself but takes too much toilet paper.. I put my contacts in with some trouble because there seems to be something in one eye, then we get her dressed. She runs downstairs to be with Daddy. I stand in my room annoyed that I have nothing to wear. Less than a week until I am closer to being out of maternity clothes!

We load up the car and decide on Corner Bakery for breakfast. It's so nice out we eat outside.

Hard at work

Izzy wants her sippy cup for her milk but we forgot to bring one so she setttles for a regular cup which gives her a milk moustache after she drinks it. She proclaims "just like Daddy!" (CP has a goatee.)

Izzy needs to use the bathroom so we go inside to pee. When we get back she wants to sit on CP because she is cold. Then we switch tables so she can sit in the sun. Then she claims she has to go to the bathroom again ("I tried."). When we get back she apparently likes the song that is playing so she has an impromptu dance party with CP.

Our goal is to head to the farmer's market today so we stop to get some cash. The market is across the street from a farm so we figure we will check out some animals first. Izzy and I head to the bathroom because my chai latte has gone right through me. There is a woman in the stall next to us farting and peeing so Izzy says "she tooted!" And starts to ask lots of why questions. I try to hurry Izzy up without laughing but as soon as we meet up with CP Izzy tells him "she tooted in the bathroom!" We stop by and say hi to the cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens before doing a quick wagon ride. Randomly we sit next to a woman and her son that I work with on homelessness (she works for a different company) so we chat during the ride. Afterwards Izzy has to jump on the two standing tractors to pretend to drive them and then we finally make it over to the market.

Not quite at 10 and 2

At the farmer's martket we buy blackberries, raspberries and peaches. We buy some fresh cheese as well (something delicious with black pepper on the outside), and run into a neighbor. Izzy pets a sheep that has been brought over from the farm before we get in the car.

10:50- We drive through a skunk smell on the way to the grocery store and I try to explain why a skunk makes that smell. My answer included the phrase "defense mechanism" so I'm sure Izzy didn't understand what I was saying. She simply keeps asking "why?" We get to the grocery store and grab a few things for lunch and to make blackberry smoothies. Izzy and I use the bathroom while CP checks out.

At home we make a blackberry, banana, kiwi, mint, kefir smoothie- mmmm delicious.

Proud of her blackberry "moothie" moustache

I lay on couch while izzy eats a peach from the farmer's market and plays with her toy kitchen. After Izzy and I go to the bathroom, I make her a cheese quesadilla while CP makes pork burritos with green chile rice (leftovers from last night when we had friends over). Avocado and black bean & corn salad round out lunch.

1- I take a quick shower and discover a third hemorrhoid to join Biff and Harry. Damn. Thank goodness I am giving birth on Friday.

1:15- I'm out of the shower and into the car to drive to the salon. It's my last wax and color before giving birth. While I wait for my grays to color away, a woman comes into the salon with her small dog and it annoys me. The smell of chemicals is pretty strong for me and I'm not a small dog. I'm also seriously wanting a nap.

4- My roots are colored, and my hair is cut and blown straight. When I get home CP is on the couch watching the Olympic trials while Izzy is napping. Track & field is on and they show the winning women's discus throw of 204'. CP asks how far I used to throw in college. I can't really remember so I google my maiden name and some of my results come up. CP is surprised at how far off from the Olympic athletes I used to throw but I remind him that although I was part of a Division 1 program, discus was not my best event. :-)

5:10- CP heads up to shower and a few mins later I head upstairs to wake up Izzy as she has been sleeping for about three hours! We have a tickle fight and she allows me to use detangler on her hair so that I can put it up for the night.

6- CP feeds Buster we head out to a local brewery to meet one of Izzy's daycare friends and his parents. I drink water while the adults drink beer. We were "that parents" that allowed our toddlers to dance around to the music.

We leave the brewery at 8:35. I bring Izzy upstairs to go through our nightly routine and she is asleep by 9:40. I head downstairs and CP and I watch the Olympic trials (swimming).

We watch a Last Week Tonight with John Oliver before CP heads upstairs (he drank a bunch at the brewery and the night before when we had friends over so he is tired). I decide to clean up and post Thursday's DITL post while watching American Ninja Warrior. I finally head upstairs at 12:15 which is way too late for me to go to bed. I'm going to regret this tomorrow.

7124 steps. Not great for a weekend day, but I neglected to walk Buster today and I did a bunch of sitting while at the salon, at the brewery, etc.

Day in the Life- Summer 2016

Time for the quarterly Day in the Life post! Thanks again to Julia for putting all of the posts together. If you are interested in participating, document your day and send it over to Julia before midnight on Sunday, July 10th.

Day in the Life- Summer 2016
Thursday, July 7th

CP is 40
I am 37.5 and 36 weeks, 6 days pregnant
Izzy is 2.5
Buster is 5.5

10:30- Turn off Modern Family. I hope that Izzy doesn't wake up in the middle of the night and that I don't have to pee too often.

3:13- First time up peeing- not too bad. I don't look at the Huffington Post notification until the morning. :-(

4:23- Why am I up? Oh, my right hand fell asleep so I turn over onto my left side.

4:53- Why can't I fall back asleep? I hear Buster panting.

5:23- Check fitbit watch. I decide to get up because my alarm will go off in 15 minutes anyway. One nostril is clogged with snot- thanks for getting me sick Izzy.

I head into the bathroom where I pee, start to wake up, shower, morning face routine, lotion, etc.

5:59- I'm out of bathroom and check my phone to see how hot (i.e. how uncomfortable) I will be today. 89 degrees? Ugh.Hear the sump pump battery alarm going off downstairs. It needs water but at 9 mos pregnant i'm not going near battery acid.

Get dressed and put powder on face (too lazy to put on any other makeup today).

Almost 37 weeks pregnant

I head downstairs to let Buster out; he immediately runs out to chase after something. I head down to the basement to turn off the sump pump alarm for 24 hrs, grab Buster's food and a clean shirt for work. Upstairs to let Buster in; he dashes off for his breakfast and I decide to make an egg and cheese on a bagel sandwich since I am running early today.

I'm hungry- let me in!

I also pour myself some OJ and Izzy her milk. I pack my lunch and put some dishes away. I also get Izzy a few Cheerios in a cup for the ride to daycare.

6:33- I head upstairs to wake up the beast. Her first words to me are "get off the bed." Nice. Picking out clothes was easy today as Izzy agrees with my first t-shirt selection. Getting her to come to the end of the bed to get dressed is another story.

Interesting sleeping position Izzy

6:44- Izzy is finally dressed and we head into the bathroom to pee, first her than me.

Izzy helping to get Buster out the door and in the car

6:50- I am able to wrangle everyone into the car. Izzy is worried about the fly in the car, but I shoo it out the window. Buster starts barking at a dog that walks by our house.

We drive by a train and Izzy says "All aboard the mommy train. Why no wear shorts mommy?" (Because I can't wear shorts to work.) "What's that sound mommy?" Someone trying to make coyote sounds on the radio. "Why mommy?" Well i don't know.

We drop Buster off at doggie daycare and the weirdo doesn't want to go behind the swinging door. I have to corral him and force him; not sure why he has been doing this recently. I also regret my choice of footwear this morning- while flip flops are going to not be as hot, my left foot already hurts from the lack of support. Oh well.

Blue nail polish thanks to my mom last weekend

Back in the car and we head over to Izzy's daycare. She grabs crackers at the front and insists that I use her fingers to type in the door codes. I sign her in and then we have her sit on the potty. "I tried." Gets off the potty then starts talking about her booty butt. *sigh* She lets me do her hair without a fight and after a big squeezing hug, a kiss, and noses, I am off to the train station.

I peruse Facebook for much of the ride but start to get tired. Was hoping to take a quick nap but it doesn't happen. :-( As I walk towards work, I decide that I need something to cool me down so I decide to grab a smoothie on the way into work. As I leave the restaurant, I walk into a chair. I am so graceful these days.

I'm into work by 8:30 and dreading my day. At noon I have a meeting with my problem employee. I don't know why she makes me so worried but I swear I could write a blog about her ridiculousness if I wasn't worried about someone finding it and it getting me fired. As an employee I remember how annoyed I was at supervisors that didn't do anything about problem employees so I don't want to just ignore the problem. My morning is spent writing/answering emails and worrying about this meeting.

12pm- I head into the meeting and it goes better than I thought it would. I then have another meeting at 1pm before I eat lunch.

Roasted chicken and peas/potatoes

2:30- As I walk to my next meeting, I listen to my sister's podcast. My meeting runs until 4:30. It's so weird announcing that I won't be at the next monthly meeting and someone else will be in my place. I walk to the train and thankfully it is not too busy so I get a seat to myself. I listen to the end of my sister's podcast for the train ride home.

Quick bathroom stop when I get off the train, then I get in my car to grab Buster then Izzy. One of our favorite daycare teacher's last day is tomorrow so we stop by and talk to her in case we don't see her tomorrow. :-( Izzy promises to give her a big squeezing hug tomorrow.

Izzy talks about the fact that it is raining while we drive home. I give her a rundown of our scheduled tonight which includes going to the grocery store after dinner. Izzy loves going to the grocery store so she is super excited.

We get home and I grab her milk, make Buster happy by grabbing his dinner, change out of my work clothes and decide that tonight is a breakfast for dinner tonight. Cheese omelette with strawberries for both of us!

Enjoying dinner

Izzy mainly eats the strawberries while we talk to CP on FaceTime (he is currently in North Carolina for work). Izzy is more interested in singing random songs than talking to us but she does tell us that her friend pulled her hair today and that he "is not a good listener." We hear thunder (or as Izzy says it "tunder") and I tell Izzy that it is the "old man snoring." So far it seems to help with her not being scared. We quickly go to the bathroom and Izzy loudly sings while I remind her about using her indoor voice.

We talk to CP until 6:55 then I realize we need to get to the grocery store. Once we get to the store, she picks up the yellow taxi cart and thankfully she is pretty good at the store.

We are home by 7:45 and Izzy eats a banana while I unpack the groceries.

Someone is excited about eating a banana

We hit the bathroom, count her way up the stairs, and brush her teeth. I read two books and sing three songs. Izzy pretends to paint bumblebees on my cheeks with her finger. Lots of stalling- she needs more hugs, kisses, etc.

Using stickers to "paint" bumblebees on my cheeks

8:30- I leave the room with Buster. I head downstairs and outside to pull in garbage, recycling, and yard waste bins. I yell at Buster as he barks at a dog walking by. Inside to do some dishes before sitting down in the sunroom with a glass of water and an ice cream sandwich. CP FaceTimes again and we talk for a while. Afterwards I turn on Orange is the New Black to finish the season. Damn this was a good season.

10- I let Buster out then back in again and we head upstairs. I take some Tums, brush my teeth, and take out my contacts. I watch Modern family, then turn off the tv at 10:30.

9677 steps but too lazy to walk more to get to 10k. Goodnight.

I also have decided to do a second Day in the Life for Saturday, July 9th so that I can document both a weekday and a weekend with only a week left for our family of three. Look for it to go up either Sunday or Monday! :-)

Almost Wordless Wednesday- Random Fourth of July pictures

Fourth of July weekend was spent up at my parent's place in Michigan. It was nice to have two extra pairs of hands and Izzy loves spending time with my parents.

This is Izzy's new bathing suit that she got to use this weekend. Her 3T suit was getting a little snug so I took her to Target to find a new 4T suit. I pointed out a bunch of options as I really wanted to get her a tankini-type bathing suit so it would  be easier for her to go to the bathroom, but she only had eyes on this Supergirl bathing suit. I had to laugh as I bought it, but she LOVES it.

Supergirl!
On Sunday we decided to do something different and head to St. Joseph, MI as a friend of mine at Bunco Friday night let us know that there were some fun kid things to do there.

First stop? The carousel where Izzy was in heaven riding on three different horses in her too-small hat.

Right near the carousel was a splash pad and although we forgot her bathing suit, I had an extra pair of underwear and shorts in my purse so we let Izzy run around in the water in her jeans. She was a little shy around the water but had fun. I can see us coming here again.

The downtown area had a bunch of ladybugs, caterpillars, turtles, etc. outside the shops and brightly painted. Izzy wanted to sit down on every single one of them.

Cranky before lunch

After her nap on Sunday CP decided to break out the new Nemo kite we bought her. There wasn't quite enough breeze to really get the kite going and when Izzy would try to run she couldn't run fast enough. So CP hoisted her on his shoulders with instructions to hold her hand up high so that he could run and hopefully get the kite up.

CP fulfilling his role as HODOR

I was doubled over in laughter watching this go down while Izzy was having the time of her life.

I mean, check out this face!

How was your Fourth of July long weekend?
