Letters

Dear Massachusetts weather,
Really? I wake up this morning hoping that we would get a delayed start or a snow day and all you can spit out is 5 inches? I really did not appreciate having to shovel the wet, heavy snow before showering and heading to work this morning. It made me very late. And now my back hurts.

And rain/snow EVERY DAY until Monday? With high winds on Friday? And only a chance of a few more inches (thus not granting me my snow day)? I poop on you!

Multiple dreary, overcast days make me depressed….not to mention tired. Two not-so-good qualities in an employee.

Please work on either giving CT/MA a good snow pounding (on a weekday of course) or just move on to spring and warmer weather.

Dear Zazzle.com,
In an age of poor customer service because of layoffs, I was amazed with my interactions with your company. I had to return a custom-made t-shirt because it was too small and you did not charge me to print another shirt in a larger size, despite the fact that my sister and I are probably the only people that understand the meaning behind the t-shirt. If I ever have a need for your services again I will most certainly be choosing to do business with you. Thank you!
NSC

Dear CP,
I know that you have to travel for work, but every time you do I have this compulsion to eat bad things for me. I am certainly not blaming you for my eating habits, but you are good about keeping me in check when you are around during the week. With you not here I buy things like ice cream which is NOT GOOD. Please finish your project in OH soon so that you can help me eat better during the week!
NSC

Dear Employer,
I know that I complain a lot about you, but can you please make up your mind this week? I’d really like to either start packing or be depressed for a few days before focusing in on my second interview with the other company. It would make my life easier if I didn’t have to bring my interview suit on our ski trip…..

Dear writers/producers/actors of Dexter,
You have me completely hooked. I have watched EIGHT episodes of your show this past week. I am completely obsessed. However, you need to tell Showtime to put back the episodes from Season 4 into OnDemand. After I watch the last two discs of Season Three I will be very mad if I cannot continue onto Season Four simply because the DVDs have not been released yet….

Anticipation

Two pieces of good news on the Denver job front. I received a call from higher-ups in my company Friday afternoon. They hope to make a decision this week on whether I can be internally transferred. If they decide against the transfer, then I also have hope with the other company that I interviewed with a little over a week ago- they want me to fly out for a second interview.

If we get the okay to transfer pretty soon, my life is going to become REALLY busy. CP will be traveling to job sites Sunday-Thursday or Monday-Friday for at least the next month so he won’t be available to help pack during the week. We already have plans on most upcoming weekends- this weekend we are going skiing in NH to use up the last two days on our ski pass, the next weekend I am supposed to head into NYC for a friend’s birthday (which I will have to cancel in order to pack), the next two weekends will be spend in the Colorado mountains skiing with friends and then it’s quickly the last weekend in March. With all of the time spent away from our house on the weekends, it will be up to me to start packing up all of our stuff when I get home from work every night.

And if we move back into the condo in Denver (because of course we haven’t rented it out yet despite our best efforts), a lot of our stuff is going to have to go into storage. Which stinks, but hopefully we only live there for a year or so, pay off credit card bills and save up some money and then move out into a new place.

As much as that sounds like it is going to stink, I really, really, really want to get the call that we can move back- and I want the call to come as soon as possible!

This and That

*The check from “Lucas” came in the mail from London yesterday. CP and I just laughed when we saw it. The FBI has not contacted CP and he is VERY disappointed that he won’t be able to help them with a “sting.” LOL. We posted our place on Craigslist again and despite a bunch of showings this weekend, no one has signed a lease. It truly is a renter’s market right now.

*Things at work are verrrrry slow. It makes for very long work days. Trying to look busy. Reorganizing my file cabinet (yes, it’s that bad). Unfortunately it is just a slow time in the department that I am working in. Hopefully it picks up soon.

*After the debacle in December of my boss finding out that I was trying to get an internal transfer in my company to Denver, I think that I need to tell her if I get a second interview with the other company in Denver. I don’t want to burn any bridges here and I am very grateful that she did hire me. I just will dread having to bring up that conversation. I don’t think that she has any idea that I have also been looking to move out west through other means (i.e. outside employment). I do think that she will be more upset if I don’t tell her though.

*Anyone else watch Survivor out there? I LOVE the Heroes v. Villains idea. Although some people aren’t fans of “All-Star” seasons, I love them because you already know about someone’s personality or the way that they played the game before the game even starts. It’s difficult to have one person to root for though. Although I know a lot of people hate Boston Rob, he’s hilarious and very cunning. Thus I want him to win. But then I also like James, Colby or Amanda. Regardless who wins, it should be a fun season.

*Or does anyone watch The Real Housewives of the OC? This season has been fascinating. Alexis hasn’t spent a night away from her husband in five years of marriage and doesn’t seem to have a thought of her own. Tamra seems to also have a controlling husband and who is now getting divorced. Lynne getting an eviction notice from her new landlord right after having what was probably an expensive housewarming party. Then flying to San Francisco with the girls and buying a $1000+ jacket. She definitely seems like she has no idea of what is going on in her life- either financially or with her kids. Despite the fact that I didn’t like Vicki in prior seasons, she has seemed to have softened a bit. Not as controlling with her kids, nicer to her husband, etc. Maybe seeing herself on tv was a wake-up call?

Any random things on your mind today?

Nailed it!

Well, I think that I nailed my interview for the job in Denver on Friday afternoon. The interviewer called an hour early which completely caught me off-guard, but I was able to quickly get my head together and compose myself. It was an interview full of questions like, “tell me about a time when you did X, what steps did you take and what was the outcome?” I have only had this kind of interview once before- and it was for the job that I currently have.

Towards the end of the interview, the interviewer said that he couldn’t tell me for sure that I would get the second interview (and have to fly out to Denver), but that he was very impressed with my resume, my skills, and my experience. I told him that I would be out in Denver in mid-March for a week of skiing and that I would be willing to drive down from the mountains in order to have another interview if that works out. It would be great if it DID work out as then I wouldn’t have to fly out to Denver a second time.

So, he wasn’t sure when he would be able to get back to me….I am hoping soon. Continue to send good thoughts my way!!

The Business of Being Born

A couple of weeks ago my pregnant bridesmaid mentioned that she watched the documentary “The Business of Being Born.” I had never heard about it, so I went online to look up the synopsis. The Blockbuster review said that it was a good movie for people who are thinking about getting pregnant in addition to those women that were already pregnant. Although CP and I aren’t trying just yet, I figured that he would be out of town last weekend so I would check it out.

I wasn’t quite prepared for watching women give birth on screen. I mean, other than the movie “Knocked Up” which had the one scene where Katherine Heigl’s character is giving birth and they show the baby’s head start to pop out, I haven’t seen a birth since watching “The Miracle of Birth” in sex ed in middle school. The fact that these women were nude and giving birth in tubs in their home was quite surprising. It was quite different from the scenes they showed of women giving birth in hospitals.

I’ll be honest. When we heard about our friends in NYC that gave birth last month at home, I was like, “huh? How does that even work? What if something happens?* Why would you want to do that?” After this movie though? The whole using the midwife as opposed to a doctor and giving birth in a midwife birthing center sounds appealing. I am obviously getting ahead of myself, but it’s never too early to start doing your homework.

Most pregnancies (according to the movie…would have to do more research to verify) are normal and go according to plan. No drugs, no C-sections, etc. needed. So while I don’t think that I would like to have a baby at home (who would clean stuff like the afterbirth up?), the women that had midwifes seemed calmer in spite of all of the pain. Being in control of the whole birthing process sounds a lot more appealing than a doctor pushing drugs or pushing a c-section so that you can get the birth over with.

Now this movie was obviously skewed towards using midwives and home births. But after discussing the movie with CP, I would think that we would do more research into the topic when the time to have kids gets closer. In the end it is what we would feel comfortable with.

*Actually, in the movie one of the filmmakers gets pregnant, starts going into labor early and the baby is breech. They end up bringing her to the hospital and she has to have a C-section. She was planning on having a home birth, but it just shows that if something does happen, you do have a back-up plan.

Long weekend

So how did everyone’s weekend turn out? With CP gone, I was somewhat productive.

*I cleared the DVR of shows that CP refuses to watch with me. Examples: Grey’s Anatomy, Celebrity Rehab, Survivor.

*I went to a friend’s Mary Kay party. Although I bought a lot of MK stuff (and still use it) from a bridal party that I went to over a year ago, I thought that I would support her anyway…plus I needed a new bottle of moisturizer! I was really glad that I went because I actually learned how to put on bottom lid eyeliner without it looking goth or weird. Score! And then went I went to pick CP up from his bus from NYC, I was able to replicate the look all by myself. Double score! (This is quite the feat for me as I have had some of the same eye shadows for SIX YEARS. And generally only put on upper-lid eyeliner- with a brush and using powder.)

*I cleaned the house and did the laundry.

*I went on two trail runs at a local State Park. One was with Fuzzy Britches- it was great that she can finally run with me! Yesterday I ended up running four miles which is longer than I usually get to run in my 30 minute lunch-time workouts during the week. YAY!

*I watched the first eight episodes of Dexter Season Two. I first watched Dexter when CBS showed it in primetime during the actor’s strike a few years ago. I totally got hooked, but haven’t had the time to watch the rest of the seasons. With CP gone, I sat down for an eight hour marathon on Saturday and it was great!! I can’t wait to get the next four episodes in the mail from Blockbuster and then continue on to the Third Season! (no spoilers please!)

*I cooked Valentine’s Day dinner for CP. He was a bit hungover and tired from the bachelor party in NYC, but was very appreciative of the meal that I put together. I made Steak Tips with Peppery Mushroom Gravy, which despite the recipe being from Cooking Light and therefore somewhat-healthy, the meal was great! I would totally make it again. I also made Rich Potato Flatbread….which was somewhat of a bust. The end result tasted good, but they took a long time to cook and weren’t the right consistency. I will perfect the recipe before putting it up for you guys. Then for dessert I baked a few sugar cookies and as a joke, wrote “I LOVE YOU” (one letter per cookie) in red icing. The extra five cookies I put hearts on. Hee hee. Totally cheesy, but I thought that it was also cute.

How was your weekend? Did you get a long weekend too?

Send good thoughts

In a little more than an hour, I will be on a phone interview with a company in Denver. Phone interviews are difficult because I like being able to visually judge how I am doing. Unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury. Please think good thoughts for me as CP and I really want to get out to Denver and this just might be the way we go about doing it!

Meanwhile, I am still hoping to hear soon from my own company on whether I can do an internal transfer. But it has already been two months of waiting for an answer so my hopes are pretty low.

Valentine's Day

Even when I was single I never dreaded Valentine’s Day. I never felt bad for myself and I never wallowed in self-pity if I didn’t have anyone to share it with. If I wasn’t dating someone, I could probably be found out to dinner with girlfriends. Because there is so much (in my opinion- silly) pressure on the day and being romantic, I didn’t try to find a date for the day just so that I could spend some time with someone of the opposite sex.

Even now, as a married woman, Valentine’s Day is not that big of a deal. Sure, I love getting flowers from CP (what girl doesn’t like flowers?). He knows me well enough not to get me red roses- they are too clichéd. Instead, he usually gets tulips because they are my favorite flower.

Chocolate? Not for this girl. It usually upsets my stomach so I don’t really eat it too often.

Teddy bears? Thank goodness NO boyfriend has ever given me one as I probably would have laughed in his face.

Going out for an expensive dinner? Not for this couple. I personally hate how restaurants jack up their prices for “special” Valentine’s Day meals so CP and I have yet to go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. Instead we have either gone out to dinner on a different night sometime around Valentine’s Day or CP has made me a delicious meal at home. Part of that is due to my annoyance at the exorbitant prices….part of that is because CP traveled a lot in the beginning of our relationship and happened to be traveling for work every February 14th.

Whatever you are doing and whomever you are doing it with- have a great weekend!

Almost duped

Oh man I am SO PISSED right now. I can’t even begin to explain my anger. I am SEETHING. Partly at the fact that we came THISCLOSE to getting duped, partly because we have to start the search for renters all over again.

As I mentioned a few months ago, our renters for the past year moved out the worst possible time- 4 days before our wedding. We put the condo on the market for a couple of months but didn’t get any bites, so decided to put it up for rent again. So far, despite the fact that we have dropped the price $300, we haven’t had anyone sign a lease. We thought we had something promising when we received an email from a guy from the UK.

We had five showings of the condo set up for last weekend. CP wanted to cancel them so that his sister didn’t have to drive the hour to show them. I wanted to keep them just in case this “Lucas Taylor” fell through. Technically, it’s CP’s condo so I deferred to him. After emails back and forth with the guy, including sending him the lease and our information, he sent more information on himself, including his supposed landlord’s email and his UK boss’s phone number. CP tried to email his landlord- the email came back undeliverable. Mr. Taylor changed his email. He then told us that since his company would be moving him out from England, the company would pay for interior decorators to move in furniture, electronics, etc before he arrived. CP has had companies to do for him before, so he didn’t think that was weird. The odd thing was that the guy wanted to send us a large check for both the deposit and the interior decorators. We were supposed to take the deposit/first month’s rent money out and then forward the check along to the interior decorators.

I began to feel more weirded out about the whole thing. But CP had me send the revised lease to him. The guy wanted the lease to start February 15th, but didn’t seem to be in any rush to sign paperwork or get the deposit to us. We got an email this morning telling us that the deposit check was on its way.

CP emailed Mr. Taylor to tell him that we would need him to sign the lease before he or an interior decorator would be getting in the condo. He said that he also needed the landlord’s correct email address for the reference. CP even emailed me at work to try to have me call the international number given by Mr. Taylor to simply make sure that he did work for the large insurance company that he claimed to work for.

Luckily, I nixed that idea and decided to Google “Lucas Taylor” and Assurant (the company he supposedly works for). I had previously Googled Assurant and verified that it was indeed a real company. However, as soon as I put the extra search term of “Lucas Taylor” into the Google bar, the FIRST website that popped up was one on various Craigslist scams.

Sure enough, as I read through the comments, the emails at the bottom show that many others had received emails from “Lucas Taylor” (and other names). THANK GOODNESS I GOOGLED HIS NAME.

So I am relieved that nothing happened to us. But also PISSED. We cancelled five appointments to show the condo last weekend. That is FIVE chances that we would have had to rent out the place and get some money coming into our pockets. Now our place has to go back on Craigslist and hopefully we get some more bites. I’m guessing that the five people that were interested have either found places by now or will think that there is something wrong with our place and that is why the person that was going to rent dropped out.

*SMACKS FOREHEAD WITH PALM*

UPDATE:

CP has decided to file a complaint with the FBI. His email to me:

Don't say anything to "Lucas" just yet. I filed a complaint and said we are in the process of dealing with this guy and haven't lost money... I am hoping they use us in a sting!

He is such a dork! :-)

The Bad and the Good

Bad: I have a cyst in the left side of my back.
Good: my doctor (who does not specialize in such things) says that they are usually benign

Bad: the cyst is fairly big- at least the size of an egg
Good: it doesn't hurt unless you touch it

Bad: it has been there for a while as for the past couple of months I thought that I just kept injuring a muscle in my back
Good: it is not protruding from my back

Bad: the left side of my back seems to hurt when I work out too hard
Good: at least it is only one side of my body that hurts...

Bad: the soonest doctor appointment I could get was march 3rd
Good: that I have good insurance that will pay for most, if not all of the visit

Bad: CP keeps calling it my "goiter"
Good: that I found that amusing....at least the first couple of times

Yay for me??

I have somewhat-happy news to share. I got a promotion at work! Yes, it is part of my program to get promoted three times within the two years, but I still had to earn it. The extra money in my paycheck is VERY nice and should help to pay down credit cards.

However, currently CP and I have to put the money in our savings account.

You see, with such a big company, promotions like this have to get signed off by a lot of people. Unfortunately, one person in the chain didn’t sign off on the promotion. In fact, she held it up and asked for more information from me. I gave the extra information to her January 4th and she has yet to look at it (yes, that is ridonkulous).

Anyway, my manager down in DC doesn’t know if she has the power to take away the promotion. So my brilliant manager decides that we are just not going to tell her that the promotion went through without her signature and hopefully she never finds out. (I hope that you can tell that my use of the word brilliant is dripping with sarcasm)

So, until this woman looks at the extra information I sent her and lets me know that I am entitled to the raise, I have to put the extra money into our savings account just in case the decision gets reversed and I have to pay the company back.

Despite the fact that other people had to sign off on the promotion.

Despite the fact that I deserve it.

Despite the fact that my boss here thinks that I deserve it.

*sigh*

Ummm yay for me?

Superbowl recap

My thoughts on the Superbowl:

*The Who was slow and old

*During halftime, I changed the channel to Animal Planet and was excited to watch Puppybowl VI. But then....saw kittens? WTF? The kittens looked overstimulated and in general were boring. Bring back the puppies at halftime Animal Planet! Oh....and for those that watched the Puppybowl...didn't you want to adopt all of the puppies? I didn't realize that all of the puppies are rescue dogs.

*The on-side kick to start the third quarter was a ballsy call by Sean Payton. Nice!

*I loved the coke commercial in Africa with the sleepwalking guy and the animals. Those are all of the animals that CP and I saw on our honeymoon! We didn't get to pet a hyena though...

*Early on I was a bit disturbed with the two commercials almost back to back that featured women getting tackled by younger men. One was the Betty White/ Snickers commercial (which at least they tackled the old guy too) and the other one was the Focus on the Family commercial (Mrs. Tebow getting tackled by Tim Tebow). Women are 40% of the Superbowl viewing audience yet the commercials featured violence against women for laughs, or commercials like the GoDaddy.com ads with women as sex objects. Disappointing.

*I got shivers when the Saints were presented the Lombardi Trophy. I love when the underdog wins and also know how much the city needed this. At the airport last weekend, CP and I spoke to a baggage handler that saves up his money EVERY YEAR just in case the Saints make it to the Superbowl. Usually he says that ends up spending the money on clothes, bills, etc. but this year he was so excited to actually spend the money on flying out to Miami and going to the game. I can't imagine that a baggage handler makes that much money, so for him to put aside money every year....well, I'm glad that his money was well spent this year!

*Ultimately, I was really happy that the decision to not go for the undefeated season blew up in the Colts face. :-)

What was your favorite commercial and/or Superbowl occurrence?

--------------------------------------------

Side note to the Anonymous commenter on this post:

No reason to comment anonymously as your comment wasn’t harsh. I can assure you that CP and I both know how much our lives will change once we have a kid. He knows about the loss of sleep, the loss of a social life, and everything else that comes with kids. Not only does he have a niece and nephew, but we have tons of friends that have kids. I probably didn’t explain it too well.

Superbowl weekend!

I forgot to tell you guys about the best line I heard last weekend in New Orleans….five of us were walking down the street (3 guys, two girls) and one of the men trying to get people to come into the strip club says to us, “Come on in! The girls in here are wetter than the streets post-Katrina!”

I burst out laughing. I mean, what are you supposed to say to that? That certainly doesn’t sound enticing….

-----------------------------------------------

So what will you be doing for the Superbowl? Unfortunately, I will be at home all by myself, unable to eat unhealthy food and watch the game with CP. He is heading off to OH Sunday morning for work and won’t be back until Thursday. He tried to push off leaving until Monday, but has a morning meeting. Boooo. We did get invited to a friend’s house which I could go to….but they live an hour and a half away and I will never get home at a decent hour if I stay for the entire game.

So, I will watch by myself, probably eat unhealthy food anyway because Sunday IS a holiday (at least in our household), and hang out with Fuzzy Britches. CP and I are hoping that the Saints win because the whole city was so pumped for the game this past weekend. Plus, Peyton Manning is boring.*

Tell me all about your grand plans for Sunday (or the rest of the weekend).

*I do miss his Mastercard commercials (“cut that meat!”) though.

2.04.2010

New Orleans made me tired

Quick synopsis of the weekend:

Thursday: First off, Air Tran has the MOST uncomfortable plane seats in the entire world. I will do my best to NEVER fly with them again. As soon as CP, two of our guy friends and I landed in NO, we dropped our bags in our hotel room. Or should I say the General Manager Suite!! CP has a ton of Marriott points and this weekend, they decided to upgrade us to a phatty phat room with two bedrooms (each with a king bed), dining room, kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bath, views, living room, and a pull out couch. So, our friends promptly cancelled their hotel room and stayed with us!

We then ran out to start drinking. Beer during our light lunch, hurricanes at Pat O’Briens, and then drinking- A LOT- the rest of the night. We forgot to eat dinner, which is probably why I don’t remember most of the night.

Friday: We all felt pretty crappy.... it started absolutely pouring so our walk around the Garden District was cut short. My nap before the out of town guest dinner that night was pretty necessary.

Saturday: It was FREEZING so we went to a delicious brunch at Elizabeth’s , walked around the French Market and then went back to the suite because it was simply too cold. Wedding ceremony was short- as was the whole reception (only from 7-10). Food was delicious (not a sit down dinner) and the band they had was a lot of fun.

The only weird thing was the disparity in guests- SO MANY friends for the groom's side and not as many people for the bride. So there were a ton of people that gave speeches for the groom and lots of cheering/yelling for him....not as much on the bride's side. She is super accomplished (Stanford undergrad, Yale Law school, is already teaching law classes despite the fact that she is mid-30s) and although I have only had short conversations with her, she seems nice, although not as outgoing as the groom. I think that it's just weird when people cheer for only one side at a wedding as the event is the two of them forming a partnership.

After the wedding we invited everyone (and I mean everyone) back to the suite to party. We probably had at least 40+ people in our suite. Three noise complaints later, security finally told everyone that they had to leave. Everybody was pretty cool about our suite (not trashing things, etc) except two people: a sluttily-dressed girl that went to law school with the groom and then a guy that is also friends with the groom. They basically tried to sneak into the room that CP and I were staying in (it had a door separating it from the rest of the place) to have relations. Uhhh not cool. I had to break that up quickly. Later, they tried to sneak into the bathroom to do the same thing. I wouldn't have cared as much about if they did that in the 3rd bathroom since I didn't have to use it, but they went in as soon as we were getting kicked out, so I had to bust them up again because I wasn't about to have them stay in our suite when we left for the bar. It was just weird- it's not like we are in college and both of them had their own hotel suites. Why are you going to dirty our suite with your possible STIs???

Sunday: It was just me and CP. We did a crappy horse drawn carriage tour of the French Quarter (our guide sucked), had lunch at Emeril's NOLA restaurant (so yummy!), had beignets from Café Du Monde and then headed to the airport. We didn’t get home until 1am Monday morning so that day at work? Sucked.

Drunken rAmblings

Alright, enough talk about babies around here. Here is an example of why I might not quite be ready for kids just yet. This is a text message conversation that I had with a friend from law school after two beers, two large hurricanes from Pat O’Briens and no dinner on Thursday while down in New Orleans:

NSC: Two beers and two hurricanes today = NSC is drunk!

JH: Nice! Sounds way better than an 11 hour workday then 2 hours of tennis! Have fun!

NSC: No not good pics

JH: I am confused, what were you talking about?! Have another hurricane! I am going to bed since I am an old fart!

NSC: Oh no I am drunk as a skunk!! Don’t worry about my drunk ramblings. Sh*t I am. Suoper drunk and this is not good. Ok don”t worry about me and my drunken rAmblings. (not edited)

I saw this exchange in the morning while completely hungover and feeling like crap and died laughing. I have no idea why I am suddenly talking about pictures and my misspelling of super, my usage of “ instead of ‘ is just silly, and why would I put a capitalized A in the last word?

Oh, and this same drunken afternoon/ night I had a text messaging conversation with my sister which consisted of me trying to get her and her boyfriend to fly down to NOLA and hang out with us all weekend because we had a big suite and because NOLA is so much fun. Then I tried to plan a trip for next fall, she suggested Jazz Fest next year and then I went into a whole conversation about how I will probably be pregnant in the spring of 2011 so that probably wouldn’t work out. Whoops.

More on our fun weekend tomorrow….

2.02.2010

Deep discussions

The night after my doctor’s appointment, CP and I went out to dinner. I told him about everything that I had discussed with doctor. We then had a tentative discussion about when we thought we might start trying to conceive.

It would obviously have to be after we moved to Denver.

It would obviously have to be when we thought we would be in a better financial position (I know, I know, you are never truly ready money-wise for a baby…..but still- I would like to be at least somewhat out of debt!).

So our tentative plans are to start trying in a year. That is....if CP doesn’t get cold feet. The conversation was actually pretty funny. We discussed the fact that we definitely will eventually have children. And I brought up that if we know that we are definitely going to try to have kids, why not have them sooner rather than later and hopefully bypass the possible complications and risks that come from having a baby at a later age?

I asked him if he was worried because he thought that he might not be a good father. His cocky answer? “Oh no I’ll be a great father.” LOL. Yes, and a very modest one at that. ;-)

CP is simply a bit worried about a loss of freedom. He obviously knows that having a baby= no freedom for 18+ years. He meant it more as, there are certain things that you can’t do anymore if you have kids. Except when I asked him to elaborate- what exactly would he be missing out on that he is currently doing now? He couldn’t think of anything.

It was kind of funny to be the one wanting to talk about kids and having CP be the one that was holding back. About six months into our relationship, CP suddenly brought up my match.com profile and the fact that I put “willing to talk about” or something similar under the “kids” section. I think that he was worried that I would never want kids and whether we should continue to date if that was the case.

So, the plan is a year. Although after some of the stuff that my friend talked about at the baby shower two weekends ago?? I've got to be honest that pregnancy and the “miracle of birth” scares the living crap out of me.

2.01.2010

Thinking of the future

I went to have my annual “it sucks to be a woman” appointment recently. My doctor was actually pretty good and had me in and out fairly quickly. Towards the end of the exam, I felt it was necessary to ask about babies. I figured that I don’t know when CP and I going to start trying and I won’t be back for another year, so I might as well find out what I need to do before we do start trying (since currently-pregnant friends talked about taking folic acid, etc.).

My doctor was so excited when I brought up the question. Really? I’ve only seen you twice. You don’t really know much about me, except for the fact that I just got married less than 4 months ago. Anyway, she said that I am close, if not now at a healthy weight to carry a baby. That was good to hear, but when I told her that I would love to lose about 25 more pounds, she looked at me and said, “that is going to be hard.” Like she didn’t think that I could do it. I certainly didn’t take that as a compliment as when I step on the Wii Fit board, it still tells me that for my height I am at the high end of the “overweight” category for my BMI. So it’s not like I am skinny or thin and don’t have pounds that could still be shed. So thanks for not believing in me lady!

We talked a bit about the tests CP and I could have done prior to trying to conceive….something that I imagine we will do.

And then I asked about the risks of getting pregnant for women over 35. I have less than four years until I hit that magical age and wanted to know if all of the talk about more complications was true or not. According to my doctor, the studies haven’t been updated recently, but the rumors are true. Risks of complications increase once you hit age 35 and it doesn’t matter if you are on your first baby or your tenth. Each pregnancy is separate and distinct.

Hearing that made me think….so I went home to have a talk with CP. More on that tomorrow.
