Work frustration

Lately I have been feeling frustrated at work. Remember my posts from this fall saying that I was a big deal at work and that I love it? Since I started my latest rotation in December, I have been unhappy with the work that has been given to me. I don’t mind once and a while doing office assistant work, but with this rotation, instead of giving me challenging and thought provoking work, I have so far been given a task that a monkey can do.

While I understand that this division is sorely understaffed, it should not give the supervisor carte blanche to throw work at me that others do not want to do. That is not the point of my rotation. I am NOT an intern. I graduated from law school and have skills that they should be using!

My frustration with the work does not include all of the push-back I have been getting from other employees. One woman accused me of trying to take her work away from her. Listen lady, I am only in your division for FOUR months. I can’t take your job! Not only that, but you haven’t been DOING the job for the past five years which is why I have to come in a clean everything up for you! When I tried to get people to use a tracking spreadsheet so that we knew what was coming in and going out the door, I had one old man sternly tell me that, “there is a certain way we do things around here.” Oh yeah? Well, it OBVIOUSLY HASN’T WORKED.

I am halfway done with my rotation and even though I was looking forward to this rotation THE MOST, now I can’t wait to get out of this division. This rotation was supposed to be an assignment where I work on my management skills- if not management of people, than management of projects. I have yet to see any work that even resembles management of anything. In order to salvage the rotation, I think that I will have to talk to the supervisor next week (because I don’t want to deal with it today). I am not looking forward to it.

Feeling better

Today I feel skinnier than I have in a while. Woo hoo! I am wearing a pair of black pants that I can remember just 3 months ago were very tight in the thigh region and didn’t look very good on me because the pockets stuck out.

Just 11 pounds lighter, they fit much better and I am actually comfortable in them. Yes, you read correctly. I somehow lost two pounds over our trip in Mexico- don’t ask me how though…unless a steady diet of Dos Equis, strawberry daiquiris, and chips with salsa suddenly facilitates losing weight. Since then, having only gone to the gym two times this week (ack! Bad Non Sequitur Chica!) I have lost another two pounds.

Maybe it has more to do with the healthy eating I am trying to follow? This has basically been what I have been putting in my mouth since we got back from Mexico:

*Banana before I leave for work (100 calories)
*Apples and cinnamon oatmeal (130 calories)
*Banana as a snack around 10:30 or 11am (100 calories)
*Lean Cuisine for lunch (anywhere from 240-320 calories)
*Ritz 100 calorie snack mix (100 calories- duh)
*Coke Zero (0 calories)
*Apple for an afternoon snack (70 calories)
*Romaine lettuce with cucumbers, carrots, sugar snap peas, croutons and Light Ranch dressing for a side dinner salad (? calories)
*Broth-based soup for dinner- this week CP made the Lime Soup (or a version of it) that we had in Mexico. (? calories)

As you can see, I have about 800 calories before I get to dinner and with soup and salad for dinner, I don’t worry too much about the calorie content because it can’t be too extravagant. I don’t feel as if I am starving myself with the food that I am eating, and I feel as if this is something that I could continue for a long time.

On a side note, it is pretty easy to get into a gym routine and then get completely sidetracked by a quick vacation. I had the time, but not the motivation to go to the gym both on Monday and yesterday. But this is not the time to be lazy! I am finally making some progress on my weight loss and need to continue (especially with the leftover wedding cake sitting in the refrigerator!). That is why I brought my gym clothes into work and will be running during lunch because we have scuba diving tonight.

Winter storm

For those of you that don't live in the Northeast, we got a fun storm today. I am certainly not complaining about the opportunity to get into work late or the opportunity to leave three hours early because of the weather. But I will complain about the lack of plowing by the state of Connecticut.

I guess both this morning and this afternoon Connecticut DOT decided that they did not want to do any work today. Plowing when the highways are supposed to get over 4 inches of snow? And then freezing rain later? Nahhhhh. Why don't we plow one lane of a heavily-traveled three lane highway halfway through the day and then not worry about it.

Thanks CT DOT! You did a fantastic job today!*

The issue of divorce

Once again, the problem with divorced parents rears its ugly head again in regards to the wedding. We have two potential issues:

1. While talking to the florist on Saturday, we weren't sure how many boutonnieres or wrist corsages to get. Obviously our biological parents will be getting flowers, but do we also get a boutonniere for CP's new stepfather? Do we also get a wrist corsage for CP's dad's girlfriend? Will that confuse wedding guests if we do include them? Will the new significant others be hurt if we don't include them? Ugh. Thoughts?

2. Our other problem is including the different sets of parents with wedding details. This past weekend we were lucky as CP's mom and stepfather went to Maine and were not available to go to the florist with us. But my parents are flying out sometime this spring in order to meet both sets of his parents so that it is not awkward at the wedding. We were thinking about staying at the Inn where we are getting married so that my parents can see it, but which parent do we go there with?

CP's dad and girlfriend have now seen the place, whereas CP's mom and new husband have not. Both parents have agreed to jointly pay for the rehearsal dinner. CP and I think it might be a good idea to keep my parents away from the new stepfather as he will talk about his gun collection or a myriad of other topics that might scare my parents. However, CP's mom can talk to a wall so I think that she will get along well with my parents.

Oh decisions, decisions.

Productive wedding weekend

This weekend was quite a productive wedding weekend. Saturday morning CP, CP’s dad and girlfriend, and I met with our potential florist. She seems to be somewhat of a hippie. I actually think that is a good quality, as I view hippies as usually being very creative (a trait that I lack…as I’m sure you can see in my writing!).

We noticed her work at the bridal show a few months ago when she had an arrangement at her table that included a kale flower. Since CP and I are all about food, we instantly thought she was perfect for us. Meeting with her again on Saturday solidified that she is going to provide amazing flowers and arrangements for our wedding. Because she is the expert, we gave her some thoughts on arrangements she had previously done for weddings, told her what we didn’t want (the “usual” flowers- roses, lilies, etc.) and as long as her quote fits into our budget, we are leaving most of it in her hands! Granted, that is a little scary for me, but I think that I will be focused on other things and not want to get into the nitty-gritty of yet another thing that I don’t know much about!

After lunch we meet with our cake maker. Once again, CP and I are trying to be “different” so we didn’t want a chocolate or vanilla cake. We searched the internet for ideas and asked our baker to make three cakes: Black Forest Cake (whip cream frosting, devil’s food cake with cherries), Mexican Chocolate Cake (three types of chocolate, cinnamon, buttercream frosting), and since he was the flavor expert, a cake with Maple frosting. We figured with the fall theme that maple could be a good flavor. Our baker ended up doing a pound cake with pecans and maple frosting. After tasting all three cakes, we picked the Mexican Chocolate Cake. The cake is going to look very similar to this:

including the flowers cascading down the cake. We have some extra cake in our fridge- would anyone like some? :-)

On a whim and because we were only an hour away, we decided to pop in on the Inn where we will have the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour AND the reception. Boy am I glad we did. As I have mentioned before, as soon as we put the deposit down, I got a little worried about the owners. But after talking to the owners, I feel much more at ease. The woman has already ordered all of our rental equipment for the tent for goodness sakes (tables, chairs, heaters, etc)! Very impressive.

After a productive day on Saturday, CP and I came home yesterday and got cracking on the save the dates. These things should have gone out ages ago, but we have been sitting on them and being lazy in general. They have all been printed and most of the labels are done. Now we just need to get some more stamps and get them out the door!

Phew.

Observations of Cancun

My tan from Cancun hasn’t faded yet, so that means I can continue to talk about my trip! :-) Once more, bullet points!

*Everyone in Cancun was excited about Obama’s Inauguration. People obviously knew that we were Americans, so they kept asking us if we were excited (uhhhh obviously!) and then they would tell us how they were excited for us. All of the networks were showing the Inauguration on Tuesday, but I knew that I was recording it at home so I was out in the sun instead of inside watching. It still was awesome hearing the words “President Obama” on NPR this morning as I drove into work!

*Cancun was just as touristy as I thought it would be. I was bummed by Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) which is a short ferry ride from Cancun. At the southern tip of the island there was a big adventure park where you could snorkel, kayak, zip line, lay in hammocks, etc. but we weren’t really into that. We thought that getting away from touristy stuff in Cancun, but to no avail.

*It was also funny how people touted their “authentic Mexican food” when it was mainly the same stuff you would find in the states. The last night out for dinner CP and I found a place with real Yucatan food- my lime soup was amazing!

*Even with the large number of fruity alcoholic drinks, Dos Equis beers, and tequila shots (especially when watching the Eagles/ Cardinals game at Senor Frogs) consumed in a short amount of time, coupled with the cheese, bread, and other delicious things I don’t get to have any more at home, I didn’t gain any weight while in Cancun. Score! However, CP and I didn’t work out the entire time we were down there so now I haven’t done anything in a week. Our trainer is going to kick our butts next week. Yikes!

*My Spanish is pretty good, but I need some work on my vocabulary before CP and I head to Ecuador. I felt pretty comfortable speaking, but a lot of words that would be helpful when traveling I simply didn't know. Maybe while CP is studying for the GMAT, I will study my Spanish book....

And now PICTURES (at least the ones that I can post):

The infinity pool at the resort. You can also see the ocean waves.

Watching the sunset from our hotel room.

Hanging out with a sting ray while scuba diving.

Back from sunny weather....

Let me tell you just how sad I am to be back in the Northeast. These are just some of the things I am currently missing:

*85 degree weather. At least it is a high of 30 degrees today….when we left MA on Sat morning it was -17.
*Sun. Yes it is currently sunny out but I am stuck in the office and if I went outside? I wouldn’t want to stay there very long and I certainly wouldn’t be able to work on my tan.
*Laying by the pool and swimming in the ocean. Last I checked there is no ocean within at least an hour of me and definitely no open pool.
*Drinking fruity alcoholic drinks. Mmm. It reminded me of Hawaii. My favorite of the vacation was the mango daiquiri as I am not much of a tequila drinker. However, CP and I did do a bunch of tequila shots in the short time we were there. It makes me shudder just to think about it.
*Checking out Mayan ruins. There were ruins literally right next to our hotel and one of the days there were sunbathing iguanas on them. We didn’t get to see some of the big ruins outside of Cancun…maybe next time.
*Scuba diving. CP and I convinced my sister AND my mom to come with us. My sister had the same freak-out reaction that I did, but within the first minute of the first dive she was fine. The views in Cancun were not as nice as Hawaii, but it was still a fun dive. A huge stingray went swimming by us- they are just so graceful in the water! Plus the dive master brought a camera so we have a bunch of pictures of us diving which is awesome. I think that my sister is going to look into getting certified at some point so the next time we are in a dive location she can come with us.

Not only am I missing everything on that list, but I am also exhausted. When CP and I booked our flights we had the great idea of taking the last flight out of the day so that we would at least have some time yesterday to suntan before having to head to the airport. Well, our flight didn’t get in until 12:30am (15 minutes late), the economy shuttle bus decided to take forever to pick us up, and we live over an hour away from the airport. Needless to say, we weren’t home until almost 3am. When my alarm went off at 6am? I just laughed….and feel asleep until 7am.

Unfortunately, sleeping in means that I can’t go to scuba class tonight because I have to pick up Fuzzy Britches at the kennel and by the time I would get to class they would be a solid hour/ hour and a half into it. CP is going to go and take notes while I am going to run errands…and probably hop into bed before CP even gets home!

I'll try to post some non-identifying pictures tomorrow if I get a chance to upload them!

Getting the heck out of dodge

This morning after Fuzzy Britches did her business in the snow, she gingerly made her way back into the house and limped for a few minutes. I got in my car and saw that the outside temperature was -8 at 7:20am. If a freakin’ MOUNTAIN DOG can’t handle the cold, how am I supposed to???

Thankfully, tomorrow morning CP and I leave for Cancun. With this ridonkulous cold streak in the Northeast, it couldn’t have come at a better time! We are flying US Airways…..here’s hoping that our plane doesn’t have to land in the Hudson (or any other place than the intended runway) too!

I am bummed that I am going to out of the country on just a joyous day (aka Inauguration), but I am hoping that my DVR remembers to tape the CNN coverage and I will just have to watch when I get back. Also, my flying high Eagles will be playing on Sunday so I will have to take a break from frolicking at the pool and/or beach and sipping tropical drinks in order to watch them (HOPEFULLY) kick some Cardinal butt! It would be sweet, sweet revenge on Kurt Warner.

I regret to inform you that I will not be posting next week until Thursday. Don’t cry. I think that you guys will survive. ;-)

ARRRRRRGH

Ahhhh rants. Sometimes you just need to get it all out…..

Number #1 rant- The Gym. I get that everyone is trying to lose weight at the gym just like me, but it is really annoying and frustrating that literally EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER showed up January 2nd. It is hard to find a parking space, the number of open lockers has diminished, and everyone wants to be on cardio machines so finding an open one is a miracle. It is like this both at the gym in my building at work and the gym near my house. After two weeks aren’t you sick of going to the gym people???

Continuing on this rant, our trainer will be leaving the gym to move into Boston. This is kind of a mixed feeling for me. While I love that she kicks my butt two times a week right now, CP and I couldn’t afford to continue seeing her after our 8 sessions are over. Even though we are getting 2008 prices, a trainer is not quite in our budget right now. But I worry that when she leaves, CP and I won’t be getting the high heart rate workout we are currently getting with her….plus she makes me do all of the moves that I HATE doing- like pull-ups, plank raises with weights, etc.

Number #2 rant- Weight loss. I get it. Boys lose weight faster than girls do. While CP has been chugging along, already having lost 14 pounds in a month and a half, I am still sitting at 5 pounds. Mind you, I am VERY proud of my 5 pound weight loss as it occurred over the holidays and considering some of the stuff I put into my mouth, it is amazing that I still lost weight. Not to mention that I am currently retaining water like it is my job (hello monthly visitor!). However, pretty soon, CP and I will almost weigh the same and that is NOT cool with me. Especially considering that I am 5’9” and he is 6’1”.

He has not been going to the gym two times a day once or twice a week like I have. On days that he feels “tired” after a workout with our trainer, he simply doesn’t go to the gym at all. Meanwhile, I am busting my butt: running, doing squats, lunges, and many other dynamic moves in order to burn calories. *Sigh*

I am hoping that instead of eating to make myself feel better about weighing almost the same thing as my fiancé, it will instead fuel my competitive spirit, making me go to the gym more and work that much harder to eat good and healthy things.

Damn! Someone brought in butter cookies today…..

Inspired

I was inspired by Obama’s run for the presidency, but I did not volunteer or really do anything except “donate” my Facebook status on Election Day and vote for him. I attended one rally early last year when he came to speak at my school, but even after 100s of emails from organizations such as Moveon.org, I didn’t volunteer.

In the beginning of 2008, it was because I was busy trying to find a job, busy trying to graduate from law school, and busy trying to figure out our move across the country. In the summer, I was busy studying for the bar, so I truly did not have ANY time to volunteer. After I started my job, there was not much to do in the state of MA as it was obviously going to go for Obama, so instead of driving up to NH to help out, I stayed at home.

I obviously know a lot about what is going on in politics (who couldn’t this year?), but I have never felt the drive to volunteer. When I get emails from different organizations asking me to talk to my congressman about an issue, if I can quickly send an email that is already written out for me then I will. If it requires me to do much more? I’ll be honest and say that I just delete the email, no matter how personal the issue is to me. I believe one would call this laziness.

That is why the people that are out there, on the ground, standing up for what they believe in, inspire me. I recently came across an article in the Washington Post about Tim DeChristopher, a University of Utah student. Having always been an environmentalist, instead of picketing the auction of public land (most of it near national parks) to oil and gas men, he registered as a bidder and won 13 tracts of land. However, being a student means that he was not able to pay $1.8 million- the cost of the land he bought to keep from getting drilled.

Recently, he raised $45,000 to cover the cost of retaining the leases to the land….at least for a little while. However, there is still the problem of potential criminal charges and the other $1,755,000 need to pay for the land. Would you have the balls to do this? To sit in a room of strangers and bid for what you believe in, knowing that not only did you not have ANY money, but that you could face jail time? To me, that’s pretty impressive.

Are you also impressed or inspired? Go donate or read more of Tim’s story here: http://www.bidder70.org/. By the way, I already donated......

Can you imagine an oil derrick bobbing up and down while viewing this scenery?

Or how about here?

Frustrated

I am seriously fed up with my company. As of last week, I have most of the approvals needed to head down to DC for three months starting in April. That is well and good, but last week I was told that my company will pay for only ONE trip back to MA. Seriously? I mean, I understand that I can't fly back every weekend (which I was not expecting) on the company dime, but I was at least hoping for once a month. What about people that have kids or other dependents? My company will end up paying MORE for my housing and expenses on the weekend than it would be for me to take a Southwest flight back home. What a joke.

So even though CP and I are trying to save money for the wedding, honeymoon, and trying to pay down credit cards, the ring, and as of this month, my student loans, in order to stay sane as a couple we are going to have to pay for a bunch of flights to see each other too. I am thinking that April, May and June are going to be busy months for the wedding, so I will have to fly up a bunch to meet with vendors too.

It's just very frustrating and I am already dreading the time that CP and I are going to spend apart. I was unhappy with it enough in law school when I had studying to do at night...and CP at least flew back almost every single weekend. Not to mention that I am going to feel guilty because I have friends to hang out with in DC....whereas poor CP is going to be very bored in our small town in MA.

*Sigh*

1.09.2009

Revelations

As a bride-to-be, I sometimes find myself holding back information or being embarrassed in certain company. It is quite an odd feeling, as with my friends, I am usually quite the open book (sometimes to CP’s dismay).

For instance, I find myself not talking about the wedding that much to certain friends. My MOH and my sister (a bridesmaid) are both single and while my MOH is fine with that because she is so busy, my sister is not. In fact, when my parents threw CP and me an engagement party over Christmas, my sister proceeded to get embarrassing drunk and get upset about not having a boyfriend. Thankfully most people had left the party by then, but she definitely scared my parents. I don’t want to throw it in their face that I will be getting married, so I try not to talk about it too much. I am guessing that will have to change when it gets closer to the wedding though.

The embarrassment part stems from the ring. I LOVE my ring. It is amazingly beautiful and I am so lucky to have it. I am NOT complaining about it in the least bit! But at times I am embarrassed when in the presence of my friends that have smaller rings. Is that silly? It’s not like my ring is even THAT huge….but it is compared to say, some of my friends that got married in law school.

It’s possible that I might be self-imposing the ban on talking about the wedding, or it’s all in my head that I should be embarrassed about my ring. I guess I should try to enjoy the next nine months of our engagement, instead of hiding from it.

On a side note, a woman at work last night rode down in the elevator with me and said, “Aren’t you getting married this year?” And it dawned on me. HOLY CRAP I AM GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR. When I told CP the story he didn’t see the big deal, but I think that it is because I am so used to telling people that my wedding would be next year, that when 2009 hit, it didn’t even occur to me how time is slowly ticking away towards the wedding. It started to get more real to me. I? Will be married in less than 10 months. Holy crap.

Underwater fun

Today CP and I start scuba diving lessons! Because we are headed to Ecuador and the Galapagos for our honeymoon, CP got us the lessons for my Christmas present so that we can check out the underwater amazing-ness in South America.

I am excited and nervous at the same time (and not just because strangers are going to see me in a bathing suit for the next 6 to 8 weeks- I am seriously translucent right now).

You see, CP and I did an intro to scuba diving day when we were in Hawaii. We didn’t have enough time to get certified before we went to Hawaii, but figured that there HAD to be an intro course on the island. Sure enough, we headed out on the west side of Maui to a shop that the guide book recommended.

We were told that we could either stay in waters less than 20 feet, or learn five basic skills so that we could travel to 40 feet below the surface. We decided that 40 feet would be much better, so we started off going 5 feet below the surface to learn how to let water out of the mask. This first skill? Didn’t go so well. I freaked out that there was water in my mask and was going into my contacts. I shot up to the surface with my heart pounding. I knew that it was the WORST thing to do, but all my head told me was GET THIS WATER OUT OF THE MASK SO THAT YOU CAN SEE.

After thoroughly scaring the instructor, we sank down 5 feet again and I was able to make it through the rest of the skills. After that, we did our first dive. The entire time I am thinking, “Holy sh*t, I am breathing underwater. Oh my god. How is this happening. I am seriously freaking out.” Etc. Needless to say, I wasn’t relaxed the entire time I was down there, even though the sights were amazing.

We took a break to go to the bathroom and rest for a moment on land and when the instructor asked if I wanted to go down for a second dive, I hesitated. I was almost ready to give up on this sport, but decided to give it one more try. I am very glad that I did. The second dive I was able to relax a bit more (although I did NOT enjoy peeing in my wetsuit) while swimming with brightly colored fish, eels, and huge sea turtles. Not to mention listening to the humpback whales while underwater.

So here’s hoping that I don’t freak out again when I have to clear my mask or do the skill where I “lose” my regulator. We will just be in a pool, but I still don’t want to look like a jack*ss.

Looking for a job?

Check out this article on cnn.com on 13 companies that are currently hiring. Good luck!

Do I want to be on a reality show? Hell no!

Last night I got an email from Kleinfeld's, the bridal salon featured on "Say Yes to the Dress" where I will be shopping for my wedding dress (*shudder*) next month. Just so you know, it was not my idea to go to this bridal store....it was my aunt's. I would like my wedding dress to be no more than $500 as I am only going to wear it ONE DAY. My aunt wants me to go "for the experience." Needless to say, we are headed to a secondhand store afterwards where I will hopefully find a nice, inexpensive dress!

When CP and I played hooky from work last Friday, I watched a couple of episodes of the show to see what the experience is going to be like and got very, very scared. Instead of wanting to help these women find a dress that they like and are comfortable with, they are all about "the sale." I understand that they are sales people, but if people are not happy, then how is this show helping to sell the bridal salon?

In the two episodes I watched, the salon tried to convince a woman that the dress that came in was in fact the dress that she ordered (it wasn't) and another dress was not hemmed correctly. Awesome promotion TLC!

Here is the email:

Hello Ladies,
My name is [redacted] and I am a Casting Producer working for TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress." We are now in Season 3 of casting.

We work one on one with Kleinfeld Bridal here in Manhattan and we will be filming in the store the date of your appointment.

I just wanted to let you know in advance in the case that you may wish to be involved! We film your family and friends who you bring with you as well so it is fun!

If you haven't seen the show you can check it out on TLC's site for more information.

If you have NO desire to be involved then do not worry about writing me back. You will not be bothered one bit at the store if you choose to not take part.

If you are interested and have a good story you wish to share or just take part in the show, then email me back and I will send you the application.

This is a very light hearted, fun show that documents a women's search for her perfect wedding dress. Family and friends are encouraged to be involved as well if you want them to help you out with your perfect wedding dress search!

Feel free to google my name to find out other shows that I have cast.... I wish you all the best and hope to hear back from you.

All best,
[redacted]

I thought that the email was so funny (as my aunt, who is going dress shopping with me and my mom, wants me to do the show), I forwarded it to my bridesmaids and my mom and said this:

Yeah uhhhhh no chance in hell lady.

The reply from my sister (a bridesmaid):

Haha! Your worst nightmare. That show would love you though--they'd be awed and amazed by a woman who has no interest in wedding dress shopping. : )

I am seriously NOT looking forward to this.

Delicious breakfast recipe

Are you looking for a ridonkulously delicious breakfast recipe? Yes it is unhealthy, but if you are going to spurlge on something, this recipe is totally worth it (CP and I had this for breakfast New Years Day. YUM!).

Crunchy Bananas-Foster-and-Pecan-Stuffed French Toast

Serves 6

6 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 medium bananas, peeled and cut into ½-inch-thick slices
¼ cup light brown sugar
Salt
¼ cup dark or amber rum
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
12 slices high-quality white sandwich bread
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
¾ cup pecans, toasted and chopped
2 eggs
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups cornflakes, crushed

In a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and heat until it stops foaming. Add the bananas, brown sugar, and a tiny pinch of salt, stir to help melt the sugar and coat the bananas, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the bananas are soft and saucy, about 3 minutes. Add the rum, allow it to warm for a few seconds, and carefully wave a lit chimney match over the pan until the rum ignites. Allow rum to burn until it extinguishes, about 30 seconds. Off heat, add the cinnamon and stir to combine, and set the skillet aside.

Spread each slice of bread with a portion of the cream cheese, place a portion of the bananas (with a little sauce) evenly over the cream cheese on 6 of the slices, sprinkle a portion of the chopped pecans evenly over the bananas, and top with the remaining 6 slices, cream cheese side down, pressing gently to form sandwiches.

Adjust the oven rack to the middle position and heat the oven to 300 degrees. Have on hand 2 shallow dishes, such as pie plates. In the first dish, beat the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla until uniform. In the second dish, place the cornflakes. In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and heat until it stops foaming. Dip both sides of 3 sandwiches in the batter to coat thoroughly, then dip in cornflakes, patting them over the entire surface to form an even coating. Place them in the skillet, and cook until deep golden brown on both sides, about 4 minutes on the first side and 3 ½ minutes on the second side.
Transfer to a baking sheet and place in the oven to keep warm. Wipe any crumbs out of the pan, repeat the process with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and 3 sandwiches and serve at once, garnished with confectioners' sugar or whipped cream.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

(1) Name only one blogger you really respect and tell me why.

I respect any blogger that has the guts to put pictures and intimate details of their life on the internet. I don't necessarily "hide" behind my anonymous status, but I do think that people that put more of themselves on their blog unfortunately get more nasty comments. I think it is great that they continue to put themselves out there, despite what stupid people say.

(2) If you had to pick a non-urban, U.S. destination in which to vacation for a week, where would you go?

This is easy. I have never been to the Grand Canyon and have been wanting to go for many years now. As I have talked about before, our country is amazing in its diversity. National parks are a great way to see all of the beautiful scenery the US has to offer.

(3) If you had $500 to spend on housing, food and entertainment for the trip mentioned in (2), how would you spend it?

If I had $500 I would probably use most of it for food and alcohol while camping. Part of the charm of going to a National Park is to pop a tent and cook over the campfire. Mind you, that doesn't mean that the food needs to be hot dogs and hamburgers. Oh no, when we go camping we do it up! When we camped in Arches National Park (Utah) with three other couples, each couple was responsible for a different night's dinner. Not only was a lot of alcohol consumed, but we ate like royalty the entire weekend!

(4) Tell me about one person with whom you've lost touch. If you hope for a reunion, how would you like that reunion to take place?

Other than a few random messages on Facebook, I hardly talk to my ex, Herb. Even though we weren't friends before we dated, I really did think that we would stay in close contact....even after we broke up. However, once I started dating CP, we drifted apart. Herb would call a lot in the beginning, even though he knew I had a boyfriend. Herb still lives up in Canada and I'm not sure if he is still dating the girl that he wanted to stay in Canada for, but I honestly feel that it is a good thing that we do not keep in contact.

My relationship with CP is number one and I do think that Herb crossed the line a couple of times before I had to tell him that I didn't think it was a good idea to talk on the phone anymore. He blamed it on CP and said that we obviously didn't have a healthy relationship if CP was not allowing me to talk to him on the phone. I resented that comment as CP NEVER told me that I couldn't speak to Herb, but warned me that he thought that Herb didn't have innocent intentions (later on, I would agree. I mean, it's nice to hear "no girl will ever live up to you" but getting these calls when he is drunk?). Needless to say, I think that we both have moved on to different chapters in our lives. I don't need a reunion with him.

(5) In 2008, what was your biggest achievement and your biggest failure/disappointment?

My biggest achievement in 2008 was passing the bar!!! I know that I am a smart cookie, but what if I didn't put in enough time? What if I suddenly blanked on a question? I have never been more nervous for anything in my life. I do have a couple of friends that did not pass and I feel awful that they have to go through the process again in February.

My biggest failure was not losing a least a few pounds of the weight that I wanted to lose before my 30th birthday. I certainly talked about it enough: here, here, here, here, etc. But until last month, I didn't DO much about it. Sure, I went to the gym but it was sporadic. I sometimes ate healthy. But as we age, it gets harder and harder to lose weight. Hopefully I am on the right track now (just lost another 1.5 pounds)....
