Miss you buddy

Monday would have been Buster’s 7th birthday.

On Sunday, the kids and I drove by the emergency vet clinic where we had him (and Koda back in 2014) put down back in November and I started silently crying in the car. I can still picture him laying down on the dog bed after the drugs stopped his heart with his head laying next to his right paw. I still remember the heaving sobs that took over my body after his heart stopped beating. I really, really miss him and yesterday was a tough day with birthday pictures of Buster almost every year in my "see your memories" feature on Facebook. I can't believe that he didn't even make it to his 7th birthday.

Now that we have had the cats for over a month, I think that I can safely say that I don't think that I will ever have as deep of a love/relationship with them as I did with our dogs. The cats are great and definitely much easier than a dog. I love that the kids LOVE the cats and LOVE to play with them. They love to help feed them every morning and night and Izzy loves when the cats (mostly Cocoa) jump on her bed in the morning. But it is definitely not the same.

I am happy that they are part of the family and for now, they are filling a small part of the hole that Buster left wide open in November. But at some point in the future, I will be ready to open my heart for a new dog. It may not be for a few more years and we will have to find a dog that plays well with cats....but at some point I will need that deeper love and relationship with my family pet once again.

Miss you my big, cuddly furball.

Hugs, hun. It is so hard and the Facebook memory thing is awful.

Happy birthday, Buster.

I remember when I picked up Alistair’s ashes; I buckled them with the seatbelt as I always did with his cat carrier. So sorry for your loss, 7 years is far too young

I'm so terribly sorry to hear of Buster's passing. We lost our boy cat around that time too (however we had been expecting it, as he was old) and it is hard to lose a loved pet and family member. We have 2 girl cats, but they just aren't the same as our original boys from all those years ago. *hugs*
