Go me!

So I am going to brag a little bit now....last night I went to the gym with the intention of seeing how far I could run. I was a little worried about the 5 mile run my friend J signed me up for on Saturday (I am heading down to DC to see her this weekend). I mean, I finally ran a mile under 10 minutes on Friday, but that is different than running 5 times that distance!

I was a little tired at work and had trouble staying awake on my drive home, so I wasn't expecting much. Plus, my hamstrings were pretty tight from the training session on Monday night. I started out walking .25 of a mile to warm up. The first mile at a 12:00 minute mile pace wasn't too bad....so I went on to do another mile. Fairly normal breathing (i.e. no huffing and puffing) and a steady heart rate of 150. I then decided to walk .5 of a mile to make sure that I still had gas left in the tank to run some more.

I then went on to do two more miles, running at a 12:00 minute mile pace or faster. CP came into the gym with 4 minutes left on my run and to show off I turned up the pace to 6.0. All in all, I ran 4 miles and walked 1 mile. It took me a total of 65 minutes, with the treadmill telling me I burned 780 calories!* Needless to say, I had no idea I had it in me. Now I am actually looking forward to the race on Saturday!

*When I got home I weighed myself before I jumped in the shower and I was down 2.5 pounds. I'm pretty sure that it was just water weight as I was sweating buckets, but still. It is a start!

Way to go! This is awesome. (And I need to start doing this SOON. It's been too long since I ran.)
