Tonight, PBS is showing the documentary “Food, Inc.” For those of you on EST it is on at 9pm, for other areas you would have to check local listings.
I would HIGHLY encourage you to see this documentary if you haven’t already. It is based on Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Both books I would also HIGHLY recommend.
I am just about to finish the Omnivore’s Dilemma (I read Fast Food Nation a few years back) and let me tell you, it is EYE OPENING. Some of the stuff I had heard about before, but having information on our food system all in one place really helped me hone into my thoughts and feelings on the subject. In fact, I am preparing a blog post on my reactions to the book as really, it has opened me up to a whole new way of thinking.
Have you seen the documentary yet? Or will you be watching tonight? Have you read the books? If so, has it changed your thinking on food at all?

how ironic....i JUST got this movie from Netflix. I have been wanting to see it for some time. I'll watch it tonight. I'm very interested, and somewhat hesitant to watch it...
I've been wanting to watch it...also want to see "King Corn"
Me too Libby!
what a great movie. it was informative without being overly sick about everything. i was really impressed....i think everyone should watch this....
I watched Food Inc this fall & thought it was such a great movie. Very disturbing and eye opening, though. My brother has been pushing me to read Omnivore's Dilemma, so hopefully I will fit that in this summer.
I think it's so important for us, as consumers, to understand where our food comes from. It's pretty dang scary, though.
I've wanted to watch that movie and read the book for as long as I've known about them, but I am kind of scared at what I will learn. I have changed my eating habits for the better in the past few years, but still... I'm on the fence, but I will probably read/see these and want to completely change everything again. (:
