Creme de la Creme

As last year dragged on and we were stamped as “INFERTILE” in June, I started trying to read blogs about infertility. Since we weren’t sure what was going on (other than CP’s lower than normal “good” sperm), I tried to find blogs about male factor infertility. Surprise, surprise….there isn’t much out there. But as I searched further, I came upon a great infertility resource: Stirrup Queens.

Want to know more about adoption? Anovulation? Surrogacy? The various fertility treatments? The various infertility tests? Do you need a how-to video for injections? This is your site. It’s pretty amazing. Every year Mel, the woman that runs the site, asks bloggers to submit their best post from the past year for the "Creme de la Creme." She writes a little blurb about what the post is about and puts a link to every single post up on January 1st. So far there are 219 (!) entries (I’m #14. Looking back probably not a very good post, but oh well).

The Creme is not just about infertility issues though. It's about pregnancy losses (those posts will BREAK YOUR HEART), adoption, having to leave Facebook, and everything inbetween.

I obviously don’t have the time to go through ALL of the entries, but what struck me (and saddened me) about every single post that I did read was that when I looked at more recent blog entries, the blogger was STILL not pregnant. This happened in every single entry except for TWO. Disappointing. Disheartening. So many other words come to mind- but certainly none of them are particularly hopeful.

So as I continue to wait for my period to return, thinking ahead to our first IUI, I’m not very hopeful that it is going to work. *sigh*

Don't give up! I have good friends that are due in May after FOUR years of trying and FIVE IUIs!

Don't give up! I know it's a hard road (and again, one that I'm not at all familiar with), but don't give up! I'm got my fingers crossed so tight for you that it hurts and I'm hoping that your surgery will have cleared up the issues with not getting pregnant. (HUGS!)

I agree - don't give up! I do a lot of researching on the internet too, and I always get discouraged over the abundance of negative stories/reviews/etc and my mom always reminds me that people are more apt to write about negative experiences than positive ones. This will happen for you, I can feel it.

Thanks for your comment on my post yesterday! As you know I did get pregnant finally after many years of trying, but after just one IVF attempt. Apparently that was what was needed in our case. Don't give up hope - it might just take a while. There are many infertility blogs out there where treatment has eventually lead to pregnancy! All the best of luck!!

Remind yourself how/why you found that blog. Because you're battling infertility and looking for a community facing similar challenges. The families that have achieved pregnancies and/or are already parents after dealing with infertility? They may or may not be reading that blog anymore. So, don't let the statistics of that post get to you. Seriously. Hang in there.

I'm so glad you found Stirrup Queens! I happened upon one of Mel's posts right at a time I needed it and her blog with the added community most. It has been a life saver!
While many of the blogs may not continue on to show that women do get pregnant, you can see many happy endings in the LFCA (Lost and Found and Connections Abound).

Also, I am one of the ones who have managed to get pregnant (and I still blog). It took us 3.5 years, a few IUIs, 2 FETs and 3 IVFs before it finally worked! I'm still in the first trimester, but everything is looking good so far.

It can happen and it does happen. Don't lose hope!

(ICLW) - funny, my experience of reading CDLC last year was that every blog I clicked on, the author was pregnant. Kinda hopeful, but yep. Good luck, hang in there and kia kaha

Don't give up! I have been living on this island- specifically on the MFI plot of land- for three and half years (off and on) but one thing I have learned is that I need this community and this community needs me.

I am not an expert, but one thing I learned was that the GP worked for us and not the other way around.
