This weekend CP took me out to a fancy-pants dinner to celebrate my bar passage. It was absolutely delicious and totally unexpected! At that dinner we decided that we will each have 4 people standing for us at the wedding.* CP also joked that we aren't going to have anything to talk about when the wedding is over. "Is that why people get pregnant so soon after getting married? So that they have something to talk about?" Ha ha.
Anyway, I am a little worried about one of my friends and whether she will agree to be a bridesmaid. I went to law school with her and while she currently has a law clerk job, it is not what she wants to do and might also be temporary (depends on bar passage and other things). If she does get her dream job she will probably get married pretty soon afterwards (they got engaged in March and have been waiting to elope until she gets a permanent job). And then? They plan on getting pregnant pretty soon afterwards because he is in his late 30s and wants children before he turns 40. I definitely would understand if she felt money-wise that she couldn't be a bridesmaid, but I won't deny that I will be very sad.
Keeping in mind that one of my bridesmaids is a teacher and the one above is not in a permanent job, I would like to keep costs as low as possible. As my potential bridesmaids are scattered- one on the East Coast, two in the Midwest, and one out West- I certainly don't expect them to make it to everything. My best friend who will be my maid of honor has already said that she is ready and willing to do whatever I need. She's great. However, I see myself leaning on CP more than my bridesmaids simply because all of them are a plane flight away. We'll see I guess.
My choice for bridesmaid dresses will also be very interesting. Three of the bridesmaids are as tall as me, while my maid of honor is short. Three of the bridesmaids are skinny, while one is overweight. Two of the bridesmaids are very booby, the other two have mosquito bites. How do you find a dress that looks good on everyone?? I know that some people give out a swatch of fabric and tell their bridesmaids to find a dress themselves, but I really do want everyone in the same dress for pictures.....
*I have two guy friends that I would LOVE to have as guy bridesmaids but CP and I both agree that it might look a little silly. I guess that while we don't want to worry too much about traditions, that it one that we will follow. Maybe they will do a reading or something?

A male friend of mine had a female 'best man' at this wedding. She and the MOH both walked up the aisle alone, then the groomsmen and bridesmaids came in couples. It did not look silly at all!
Just saying that if it is important to you you can find a way. It's YOUR wedding after all!
I understand your quandry about the bridesmaid dresses. A-line skirts look good on anyone so from tall to short (and I am short) it works. As for the top part, I would suggest a top that goes straight across, that way the girls who are booby don't have a lot of the top part spilling over and can wear a bra that is comfortable and the ones who are less boobie can wear a bra (if they choose) and not feel weird.
I would suggest that you look at dresses you like and ask them to try it on in the different locations and take a photo. So that you can see how it all looks and choose the best one. Many bridal stores will let you do that.
Good luck.
my bridesmaids were all very different sizes, too, so i decided to just do the whole different dress thing. it actually turned out wonderfully. i had each of them do a little black dress. i only asked that the dress be no longer than right below their knees (my dress hit me at mid-calf & i wanted theirs to be a little shorter). they looked great, felt great, & they were happy because who can't use another lbd? anyway, thats an idea if you end up not finding a dress that works for all...
good luck!
Girl - I'm already loving your wedding posts (and they've only just begun). I feel like I could give you ooodles of insights since I went through the same steps not too long ago.
1) Wedding talk WILL take over. ESPECIALLY if you and CP are planning your wedding (versus letting parents take over). It's all Sweets and I talk about these days and we CAN'T WAIT to have NOTHING to talk about again. :-)
2) As a gal who has been a bridesmaid many times ... be openly vocale to your gal pal. Tell her you understand finances may be an issue and will work with her (if you're willing to do so). For me, I actually asked my bridesmaids for their dress budget before I went shopping. Turns out they all had the same budget and I could easily accommodate!
3) Speaking of dresses, consider David's Bridal. Not my favorite store of all time, but they really do have an inexpensive and wide array of dresses. Plus, they're all over the nation, so if you find a dress you think you like, have your gals try it on to make sure it works for them (if that's the route you want to go).
4) I've leaned on my fiance way more than my bridesmaids. Even though my gals have offered to help, it's just easier to ask the person I see everyday. Don't worry about it!
And most importantly, HAVE FUN. It's way too early to stress. :-)
CONGRATULATIONS!
I knew a girl who failed the bar multiple times before passing, so I am VERY excited for you.
Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope I can write a post like yours in the near future.
